HELP! My new PC sounds funny!

Dave N

My PC goes to 7...
I just went to Lowe's and bought a PC polisher. When I got it home, I attached the supplied polishing head, and tried it out on setting 1 on a table. It makes a grinding noise -- is this normal? One thing I noticed right away is that the counterweight looks a little crooked; one end is a little higher than the other. The noise is kind of hard to describe -- kind of like ice in a blender, or peanuts in a food processor...

Please let me know what YOUR PC sounds like, maybe I need to take this one back!

I think it may be because it is on speed one. I have found electric motors make grinding noises when they are on a real low speed. Try running it at a higher speed and see if it goes away.

DavidB's buffer video shows how the PC should sound.

Yeah really hard to describe. Like a low whirling sound with some peanuts throw in. Blender on lowest speed with peanuts turning into peanut butter.

I went to the garage and fired up my new 7336 which I haven't had an opportunity to use because of the weather. It has a raspy sound in speed one and two, three thru six sound more like a whirl. Hope that helps.

Bill;) ;)

Thanks for the quick responses, guys:)

I dunno, mine makes that grinding noise all the up to 6, and it's fairly LOUD (at least it is inside the house).

Jason, where is David' buffer video? I checked the "machine buffing" link on the details, details, details page, but it had links to his ebook. I have a Mac, so I can't use the ebook. Or is the video somewhere else?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what my new PC sounds like - all I can hear is this "Yeeehaaaaa" coming out of my mouth - it seems to drown out any noise the PC makes!

I don't know which sounds funnier, a blender with peanuts :D or some guy saying yeah while buffing away (my neighbors already think I'm nuts) :D

Next time you make margaritta's you can yelp away behind the blender for the same reason.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I just watched the PC video, and mine sounds about the same, but is perhaps louder.

I used it to buff the top of my dad's truck yesterday, and the sound was bordering on uncomfortable. Is THIS normal? I ended up swithching back to my 9" Waxmaster because all the surfaces on the truck were so large and the sound was driving me nuts, plus I was just applying Klasse (not buffing out swirl marks).

I prefer terry cloth to micro fiber, and a Waxmaster to a PC. What the matter with me?!?!:p Well, got to go pick up some more Turtle wax...

hehe :xyxthumbs I like durashine better cuz it protects your cars from lasers

Seriously though…

Since you got it locally I’d just go exchange it for another one. Mine makes a grumble when you start it up but the operating sound isn’t very loud or bothersome.

Yeah, I'm planning on going back to Lowes and at least having them plug another one in so I can listen to it...

That's got to be one of the funniest posts I've read! LOL!
