Help, my nephew screwed up my car.

Hi, I just signed up here after reading through as many of the buffing posts as I could. Whilst in Florida I let my nephew (who started at a detailer) try to buff out some of the light scratches on my black 2000 Eclipse. I know it was stupid but I thought he knew what he was doing.

He must've used too high a speed or something because he scratched the hell out if it. Now I have all these white 'c' shaped scratches in my finish. They don't catch my fingernail so I'm hoping they are just in the clearcoat.
When I see the car in the sun, there are these reflected lines that I can only describe as a compressed 'sine' wave (ununununu) a few inches apart and running the height of the car. It looks so bad it makes me want to cry.

I was thinking about investing in a PC in the near future, mainly for waxing/polishing and keeping the black looking good. I know it's hard to tell without seeing the car but I need some advice. Do you think the PC is powerful enough to buff these out or am I going to need professional help? I've never used an electric buffer/polisher so that's why the PC sounded good. I could try and take some pics but I don't know how they'd turn out.

Thanks,
Chris

First relax, hehe.... It sounds like marring to me, or he created some swirls int he finish. If a rotary buffer created them, then a PC might not be able to take them out. You can eaither A. Find a good detailer and ask for a full exterior treatment to get rid of most exterior defects or B. You can purchase a porter cable and order some pads from edge,I would get the yellow, green and blue pad, yellow being the most aggresive followed by green then blue for finishing up, and some compound and polish from Poorboysworld, I would get some SSR 2.5, SSR 1, and some EX to seal the car :) It all depends, you will prolly save money by just goin to a detailer or if you are like most of us and are overly obsesed with detailing then it will be a fun project. Also i bet after the process your car will loook better then it ever did hehe, hope this helped.

Sounds like holograms. Reflctn Perfctn has it right, find a good detailer in your area and ask them to take it out. Where are you? There may be someone near you that's on Detail City that could be of some assistance.

we have a 2000 mitsu galant and it is pretty easy to correct defects with the pc, probably the same paint, so a pc might do it in your case, i use 83 and 80 sealed with nxt to clean up some holograms from a body shop on the new paint and old paint where they decided to give a complimentry buff ( ) and had no real problems, hope your as lucky

why is everyone quitting so quickly. get some scratch x with a foam applicator. if u can rub it out (give it a couple tries) then u can remove it with the pc. just test a small portion. if not, then result to a good detailer

When you say C's do they look like the sprials on the bind of a sprial notebook? - if so - something got in the pad - take it to a pro -

Yeah, they are c-shaped like spirals on a notebook (or at least half of one). I tried Scratch-X but it didn't do much. I could try a few times in succession I suppose to see if that helps.

I live in McHenry, IL (NW suburb of Chicago) if there is anyone local with a buffer and some time.

Yeah something got in the pad while he was buffing then. You going to need a pro level detailer with a rotary :(

hmmm. why dont u just tell him to do it but this time make sure theres nothing on the pad...

I wouldn't let him within 50 feet of my car after what he did but I appreciate the suggestion.

Thanks for the tip Eric, I will PM him.

Space_Coyote,
I would try contacting him through his website or telephone. I also, read on another detailing board he was on vacation, so he could be catching up on messages. I would call him since the PM did not work. Check with a member on Autopia called PrinzII, as he is Chicago area and my be able to asist you.

Eric
