I am looking to buy a new sealant and have been back and fourth about it.

I am looking for a sealant that is very durable and also look great on metallic. I am not looking to spend a boatload, so I would like to keep it under $50. This will mainly be used on cars for friends/family with dark metallic/pearl cars. (notably a charcoal metallic pontiac g8 and a nighthawk black pearl honda)

Durability needs to be number one for this product, because it will be going on friends cars, I want the LSP to last as long as possible. Currently, I would go with Collinite for longevity, but I REALLY do not like it on metallic/flake/pearl finishes. I want POP and slickness (and for it to last as long as possible)

Here are my current considerations, feel free to give suggestions.

FK1000p

Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0

Ultima Paint Guard Plus (would like to have seen a bottle larger than 12oz)

My current arsenal is (placed in order of use)

Collinite 845 (9/10)

Collinite 476s (8.7/10)

NXT 2.0 (7.0/10)

Pinnacle Souveran (love the look, no durability 7.5/10)

Meguiars 26 (6.5/10)

Optimum Car Wax (usually use as a quick wax with a washing, never really used as a dedicated LSP)

Why ? a 4oz bottle will last you plenty, I`ve used mine a dozen times and can hardly see any gone.

But seeing as your already using OCW why not go for Opti Seal ?

Forgot to add that I have Duragloss 111, I knew I would forget something. I was't impressed, didn't have any depth or slickness. I guess I will try it again.

I totally didn't even think of Opti-Seal. I think I will buy some Opti-Seal, I didn't know you can use it over wax! I may do OS over Souveran!

stick with 845, then top with pinnacle souveran!

That is a deadly combo. Big plus one on that.

But if you're looking for something a bit cheaper than Souveran, I'd go with 1000P without anything underneath.

Edit: D'oh! didn't see that you already have souveran.

Please register your location. Someone on this board will be nearby and probably can get you a sample of his favourite (and help you apply it). All of the choices above are great, but check the reviews on this site for sealants. You'll find that Zaino sealants are considered among if not the most durable. My preferences are to use Z-AIO followed by Z-2 or Z-5 PRO depending upon the color of the car. Z-5 gives a better result on darker cars and helps cover any blemishes. I put about 3 layers of Z-5 alternating with Z-2, Z-CS, and Z-8 on my dark cars. Since they are garaged when not being driven, the application lasts at least a year. But a good cleaning and a couple of layers of Z-5 PRO will give you great durability and look good.

DO NOT USE A SEALANT OVER WAX!!! You may use a wax over a sealant, however.

Until I put on Opti-Coat (for testing purposes) on my grey lustre Maxima, I was mostly using Opti-Seal. Also used Carnauba Moose and Souveran with excellent results but those aren't sealants.

Cost to cost? duragloss has my vote. Can't really see differences between both.

opti seal all the way for dark cars. looks great, excellent durability and incredibly easy to use. plus, relative to something like ZCS it is cheap!

maybe top or maintain with OCW on a dark car as well.

I just used opti seal. Easy to apply for sure. It is not slick like some LSPs but then they usually lose that after a wash. It looks good and the after a few easy applications I like it. I don't have a clue about durability. However with a product that applies like this durability is not really a big deal. Protection when it is in full stride is something I would like to know.

Based only on what I have read on various forums, I think I would want to try the Werkstat Acrylic Kit with the metallics.

Some sorta-random thoughts:

UPP is very nice (I use it on the S8) but its durability isn't all that hot (well, at least the wonderful slickness drops off fast).

Topping stuff with Souveran (I use Souveran over SRP on the jag) is also very nice but the Souveran dies fast and seems to leave "dead wax artifacts" behind.

So I wouldn't go with either of the above on somebody else's car where durability is paramount. I'd want something that "stays freshly waxed" in the owner's eyes, not something that changes for the worse after a few weeks.

I don't use a lot of the LSPs under discussion, but for this one I'd go with FK1000P or the Ultima (which I've never used).

I have upgp and have been very impressed with it. I would recommend it to anyone (pricing is a little steep, but a little goes a very long way). I should note however, i really value the ease of use... thats a huge plus for me
