Help me clean my rims please!!

Hello,

I just purchased a 2003 mustang cobra with the upgraded rims I do not know if they are clearcoated. they are shiny. I think chrome but I am terified I will mess em up.

Can I use never-dul? What should I use???

they have some spots on them. I guess oxidation spots. Not bad but I want em perfect



advice please.

I want to do it now. SO I sit here waiting in suspense.

Can you get pictures of the rims? Im a mustang fan, and I cant believe it right now, but Im having a mind blank on what the finish is. A metal polish will cork for chrome or polished rims. A polish for paint will work on wheels with a clear coat. Then add some wax for protection. :)
 
To test them, take a bit of metal polish on a white towel and rub it into a small, inconspicuous spot on the wheel. If they are clearcoated, the towel will remain white. If they are not clearcoated, the towel will turn black.



Of course, the wheels must be clean when you do this. Dirt will turn the towel black too.



You could always try a non-abrasive paint cleaner first. That will probably do trick whether the wheels are clearcoated or not.
 
well I cleaned them with never dull and they look great

am i ok or did i do long term damage that will show later if I used the wrong stuff??
 
The bright yellow towel I used turned black some of the time but I would atribute it to dirt.

So I would say no.

Now call me stupid but what deos that mean again??
 
As I said in my earlier post, the metal polish residue will turn black if it's rubbed against a non-clearcoated surface. If you want to see what I mean, rub some metal polish on your valve cover or some other aluminum part of your engine bay. Or your exhaust system.



You should always clean your wheels before doing any polishing on them.
