I am working on my Wife's 1997 Honda Civic (white) and I can not get the swirl marks out. Now, this car has 155,000+ miles on it, and it has NEVER been polished.

I havee been attacking the hood for almost 40min with my PC, CMA Yellow pad, and IP and they just wont come out! Please help. I am not sure what else I can do at this point.

Thanks in advance!:(

Before you start looking for another product, please describe your process to us. Sometimes, it's the little things that keep you from seeing the results you are after.

Jason, I bought into the Menzerna craze when I joined up at Autopia and The IP didnt do a darn thing for me. I didnt even need to use the FP because the IP did nothing.. 6 polishes later I found what works for "me"... Its a crap shoot my friend, if Menzerna doesnt work, move on !! Im a 3M lover now because my style favors it I suppose. The P-III fine cut RC and MG are "my" best friend when it comes to the serious swirls(and a PC)

See dealer for details, your mileage may vary.

I am using the Menzerna Ip with my PC and CMA Yellow pad. I am using the PC on 4 and go up to 5 once I get the polish worked in. I do this til it is time to buff it off.

Just a thought- any chance that a white '97 Civic is single stage? If so it's gonna be way too hard to correct with a PC.

Otherwise, try 4" pads. They make the PC behave more aggressively.

I do almost all my PC polishing at 6.

I haven't tried the Menzerna IP, but I too get good results with the 3M PI-III stuff. But some jobs are just too much to do by PC.

Oh, and I've spent *hours* on a single panel many times. 40 minutes by PC really isn't all that much work, though I bet it certainly *seemed* like it was at the time!

40min is a long time to work on half of the hood... lol

I am stepping up to a heavier compound for my swirl remover. I will keep you posted...

I have used IP and can tell you its not that strong. Second a yellow pad might give you the preception of swrills because it can cause some marring. Given the fact that its an older car the paint just might be so hard that you need to give it a go with a rotary. I do say you'll probably have better luck using DACP or 3M FCRC and do it at speed 5.5 to really break it down. If that don't work then it needs a rotary. IMO Powergloss,SSR3, or any other heavy cut compound does not work with a PC as they don't create enough heat to use it.
