Help, Griot's "PC" left a burn mark!

Hi, After reading posts on the site, which I enjoy. I bought the Groit's Polisher. I did the two daily drivers, a 1970 Mustang which was in a barn for 25 years. All three came out great. I did my black '97 Mustang with the mildest polish and now I have a pad burn in one place. It turned the black paint kind of brown. In a perfect 6" circle. Not super noticeable but it's there. Bugs me to no end. Any fixes? Also any advice on keeping a black car clean? I love the color but it's always looks dirty? Thanks for your help.

Tom

There really isnt much you can do as far as I know. You burned the paint only thing I know of that you can do is to repaint.

Got a pic of it?

I didnt think it was possible to burn paint with a PC, especially the way you did (in a circle). If you say you burned paint on the old mustang at an edge, that might be easier to believe.. can u post a pic? Maybe its dried polish?

I dunno...I've damaged clear with a PC/4" pad..dunno how aggressive the Griot's machine is.

wagnergear- I'd contact Griot's about it. They make a pretty big deal out of how safe their system is.

I *do* suspect that any such damage would be the result of pretty egregious user-error. I don't mean that as a :nono What I mean is that you should probably have a good idea about what you did to make that happen.

Seems suspect to me... more details on the polish you were using?? Also, I didn't see any mention of the pad type either. I've hit some much older paint pretty hard with aggressive compounds and pads on the PC and NEVER burned the paint so something else seems to be going on here.

Its is possible to burn paint with a DA. Its hard to do, but possible.

Maybe you should send a pic of your burned paint along with the pic of the Griot guy putting full force on the polisher thats in the catalogue.

not much you can do about burnt paint

Ive taken a porter cable with a 6.5 inch yellow cutting pad with Menz Power Gloss and run it in one spot on speed 6 for over 4 minutes straight and it didnt burn anything. It was on a fender I got at a body shop.

I've never heard of such thing. I don't think you can with their version of the DA. You got pictures? That'll help everyone see what exactly might be the problem. If you do burn your paint go talk to Richard and have him pay for it :D

Try using a 4 or 3 incher and put some pressure on it, Ive burned paint purposely to prove a point with this technique with an orange pad.

Heh heh, with the PC/4" you don't even need to use orange pads to do it ;) Green Cyclo pad/3M 05933 did it on the MPV, had to get it spotted in by my painter. One of those expensive mistakes that only took a short time to do, and I wasn't being mindless when I did it either; aggressive yeah, but not stupid-aggressive (or so I thought :o ).
