Help for an 07 Caddy STS

A friend of mine just got a black 2007 Cadillac STS and I told him I'd show him how to take care of it. I'm a DIY type detailer that's been at it about 2 years now.

Haven't seen the condition of his paint but is there anything (tips, tricks, info) anybody can tell me about the Caddy's paint (hard, soft) or nooks and crevices to watch out for?

TIA,

Tony

I too am interested to hear what others have to say about Cadillac paint. I take care of my father's 08 CTS regularly and also have the responsibility of detailing the car, but have yet to do any polishing on the car because there isn't any correction necessary at this time. I am guessing the clear coat should be the same or very similar between 07 and 08.

The paint is like a rock.

+1...and I own an Audi which is well known for it's hard paint.

I've never come across anything like late model GM paint before. In the last two weeks I've worked on two corvettes (I knew these would be hard) a Yukon, Escalade, Suburban and Cadillac DTS. All but one were completely WRECKED somehow which I can't understand with paint this hard. I spent hours upon hours on the exterior of DTS since it was a friends car and was barely able to put a dent in the issues that car had using everything I could throw at it. I finally settled on a Black microsurface wool pad, Meguiars 105 via rotarly @ 1800 rpm. Even with 2-3 applications with this combo followed with SIP / Orange via rotary @ 1500rpm and finally 106 / White via rotary @ 1000 rpm I wasn't able to get full correction on it!

I can't confirm it but last I heard they were trying them out on certian cars when i left. Considering the recent change in paint hardness on some of their cars I have to assume it took place. Of course I could be way off base and they just mixed in a little liquid nails into their clearcoat mix LOL. Of course even if some cars do use it it's all plant specific and there's really no way of telling which is which just by a brand of car..

Ha. Whatever it is, it's horrible from a detailers perspective.
