Help day was great!

Well we were finally able to have the help day. We had lots of fun.

Thanks to John C (cattman71), D!ck P(dickpribyl), Walter B(Baltic), & Peter Y(peter y).



This was not able a complete detailing session, but a help session to get rid of some fears about detailing.



we started with Cattman71's 2001 BMW. The car was in great condition already. John wanted to be sure how to use the pc before he purchased one. I showed him how easy it was to use. In no time at all he turned into a pro. He used 3m smr on the hood and polished the rest of the car with final polish. We then gave the car s100. WOW, car looked better then new.



Then we have Walter (baltic). He came with his bmw, forgot what year it was but it was an oldy but a goody. This bmw was in great shape. Walter wanted to learn how to clay the car. This was easy we clayed 1/2 of walters trunk and showed him the difference it made. Then he clayed the other half. Came out like glass.



DickPribyl came with his late model f150. This car did have some minor swirling in it. He went to clay the car, but something went wrong. It left marks all over. Not to worry though, nothing some meg's scratch x and some elbow grease could not remove. He then used s100 on the hood and it looked great. came out like a mirror.



Peter Y came with his 2002 acura. He has also never used a PC before. I showed him step by step how to use it. Within mintues he was polishing his entire car with final polish. We then added s100 for the perfection. the car just looked wet & deep.



we had a lot of fun and took lots of pix. we will be posting this pix shortly so everyone can see.



Today was just not about detailing, it was getting your fears out of the way so you can maintain your car they way you want to. I explained all different products to them and what they are used for. I also showed them all kinds of applicators and cleaning tools that are needed for complete detailing. We went over how to detail and when to detail and what to use. It was a great help to all of them and we had lots of fun.



At the end of the session, they became Autopia Certified Detailers in: Porter Cable Machine Polishing & Auto winterizing. I handed them their certificates as well. * thanks to David B for allowing me to use autpia logo.



We then went out for pizza and talked about cars and detailing. It was fun to meet the faces behind the screen names.



I will be holding another one the sessions in May or June. This will be open to only Contributing members of autopia.



**Special thanks to Viking for sending us all the supplies that made it possible to have this today. We used alot of the products that were sent over. They all worked great and i will be posting about them.



The guys will be posting more about today as well.

The session was AWESOME! Major shout out to NYDetailer for sharing his time, expertise, supplies, etc. Thanks to Viking for sending us great stuff to use!

This was an event that makes Autopia the community it truly is. We were all strangers with one thing in common: lovers of great looking cars, all a bit bonkers about keeping them looking their best, and we had a wonderful time.

I am now Autopia Certified, and looking forward to more!

I wish that every region could have their own similar session. And NYDetailer, next time you have one, count me in again!

In addition to making my car look great, I made some friends. Real nice people.

PS NYDetailer swears by 3M swirl remover, Final Polish, then P21s. I am a disciple. That combination works wonderfully, especially on my metallic black bmw. And his PC lesson was invaluable- we all had different goals, and we all left happy.



Walt (Baltic), I hope my Beemer looks as good as yours does after 16 years!

Hey Brian

This was a great day, in spite of the wind.

I finally learned how to clay my car properly. It is really smooth now. We learned lots of little tricks to make cleaning and polishing

go much faster. I'm not afraid to use that PC on my car any more.

It was nice meeting everyone and to realize that there are

a few other nuts like me who are very fussy about how a car should look. They came out really beautiful.

Can't wait to see the pictures. It was a fun day.

Hey New York Detailer I want to compliment you for going over and beyond the call of duty. I have always given back. Its so nice to see that there is someone else out there who isnt necessiarly wondering whats in it for me type thing. One of the greatest talents of all is the talent to develop the talent in others. Congratulations NY
 
Congrats Brian! Good job on your first Autopia event.



I was just telling Brian that it would be great if we could webcast events like this to the rest of the Autopia membership. If any of our members has wabcasting experience, I'd love some help to make Autopia webcasting a reality.

NYD, it is great to see someone out there taking care of the guys like myself who may need a few pointers and some assurance. I wish that I could have been there to join you all for the edumacation!:xyxthumbs (yes I did spell that wrong on purpose)
 
Man, that sounds like an awesome time! I wish there could be something like that down here. As good as my car looks; I'd love to learn the tricks and tools of the trade with using the PC. Cutting down more swirls, etc. Anyways, NY Detailer; that seemed like a really great thing for you to do.

I'd like to thank you again for coming up with this concept of providing a hands on help and demo for us. It was a truly excellent experience.



The folks that read and participate in this autopia forum generally have more information and facts about detailing than 99.99% of the public. I would put myself in that category.



Having said that, yesterday demostrated to me that there is absolutely no substitute for hands on demonstration at the hands of a more knowledgeable and experienced pro detailer such as yourself.



I have owned and maintained my cars for the last 40 years. As Walt related, 40 years ago that meant wash and wax with much effort and elbow grease. After reading numerous articles and books on the subject, I can say that I've been detailing my cars and and bikes for the last five years.



Friends and neighbors generally say wow, your '99 Grand Cherokee ( or whatever) looks like a brand new car.



Well, yesterday's session has raised the bar for me. I will no longer be satisfied with the results that I have been getting, as you have demostrated to us that with the right tools, products, and techniques but really no more effort, a much higher standard of result can be achieved.

Hey NYD,



Thanks again for such a great experience. My car was looking and feeling pretty good when we were done. I now know what I have been missing without a pc. Although i didn't really use the SMR, i saw the improvement it had on Johns BMW. I really like your combo of Fianl Polish and S100. For anyone doubting it, it's the real deal. Although it was real cold out, we had fun. Thanks to Viking for sending some supplies and thanks to you for holding this on your time.

For all the Autopians who find New York a little hard to get to I would be more than happy to give a one day hands on seminar. I will teach everything you ever wanted to know about detailing , but did not know who to ask. I will actually put major swirls in a black vehicle and then teach you how to remove them, not hide them. I would like as many people who can make it to show. My 30 years of knowledge will be shared. There will be no need to bring any supplies. It will have to be held on a saturday sometime in spring early summer. If this sounds interesting and there is enough people who are willing to attend we will call a date after the first of the year. My shop is in Buffalo New York. Let me know who might be interested. This will be totally FREE and I will make it worth your time to anybody who attends. I am presently in Florida for the winter months. If there is anyone in the Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Miami area who has a shop I would be more than happy to consult you FREE of charge.
