Hello everyone,

Ok, so I would want to go with:

ZFX and Z5???

Let me get this right, you can mix the ZFX with the Z5 and then apply them, WITHOUT removing it, I can drive around, allow rain to hit the car etc... when I want to apply another coat I just wash off the residue and dirt off and apply another coat of Z5 mixed with ZFX?

By leaving on the Z5, doesn't it look like something is on the paint and has to be removed?

Joed, I think you are confusing curing with drying. When DK says he drove his car around while it was curing, he meant he drove it around after he buffed all the Zaino residue off. Zaino used to take 12 hours to cure. Some people complain that you can't drive the car while Zaino is curing, but actually you can. You just have to make sure the car is clean before applying another coat.

Apply the ZFX mixture, wait 5-10 minutes and buff off. Repeat this procedure (with Zaino quick detail in between coats) up to three times in one day. Simple as that.

I'm sure I'm not the first to discover this but...

Z7 is great for removing bird poop! I mix up some water and a little Z7 in my spray bottle (from CMA), set the nozzle to stream, and ZZZAP-ZZZAP-ZZZAP. Nail the bird poop with the suds, and 90% of the time, the crap is knocked right off the Zaino'd paint. The other 10% of the time, the Z7 helps to reduce the chances of scratches when you gotta wipe it off with a towel. Rinse down with the hose and it's so fresh, so clean.

Thanks for the nice welcome. :)

The funny thing is that I swear I've posted at Autopia before. For some reason, it said it was my first post...weird! :)

Just made a purchased from PAC yesterday after a months long research of what products I would eventually go with and did not know of this forum until today. What a wealth of information we have here!

Anyway I just wanted to say hello and how grateful I found this site.

Will get started next week on detailing a new 2010 370Z Roadster (Red)

Products I purchased from Proper AutoCare are:

Flex xc4301VGR Kit with carry case and 3 pads, LC Black / Red / Gold
Blackfire clay polish and shine kit
Gilmore foamaster gun
2 wash bucket kit with grit guards
Sheepskin wash mitt
Raggtop fabric kit
Natural horsehair convertible brush
Interior leather kit
P21S total wash
Various drying, shining towels, etc

Only thing I might have forgotten is the cleaner solution for the pads

For what its worth, my decision was sealed with Proper AutoCare because of the great price on the buffer kit with bag and pads, and deciding on Blackfire as my choice of sealant.

And now finding this wealth of information here!

Any tips right off the bat that comes to mind for a new car detail that may not already be revealed here, please let me know.

Thanks,
Brian

Welcome to TID, Brian !

This is a really great place to be a part of; a bunch of really, really, great Detailers post here, the PAC people are first rate, and the support for this website is world class.

Yes, you will need to wash your pads, and while almost anything will work, the product called Snappy Clean, sold here, is really the best I have ever found that is made for cleaning pads, and does it about perfectly.

Congrats on the new Flex 3401VRG Random Orbital; a great machine with lots of power an ergonomics. Some of us have cut the 6" backing plate down to allow us to use 5" pads, and that really worked out great..

You might want to think about getting some white pads and maybe even a couple of orange pads sometime, for cleaning up defects in paint better.
The 3 pads you bought are nice pads for finishing; maybe the black one might correct a little if used with an aggressive compound, but its so fine, it probably wont do much; hence the need for orange (most aggressive), and white (medium aggressive)
Now, it looks like you have a new 370Z - wow, Congrats on that too !! :)

If the paint is satisfactorily clean and clear for your needs, then all you need to do is clay it and polish it up !

Good luck, let us know how it's going, and we are all here to help when we are not outside Detailing.

Thanks Dan

Yes I did think about the more aggressive pads but didn't know how much cutting would be needed on a new car finish. Having said that on closer inspection there were some abrasions near the trunk area, nothing significant, nothing deep.

To correct this and any other minor scratches, would the Blackfire polish from the kit be sufficient using a white pad?

If so what I'll probably do is order a white pad and 2 orange along with the Snappy Clean.

I wasn't quite certain what backing plates extra would be needed, so I hope the pads which come with the Flex will fit.

When you say cut back the 6" backing plate to accept 5" pads, I gather its not so much to render your other pads too loose?

The car, well...went in to change the oil in my 3 year old Maxima, wife sat in 370Z as she always did on occasion while at the dealer. Ended up getting too good a end of the year deal not to jump on it, so we drove off in that! It was totally impromptu, never knowing when we got up that morning we would be buying car, crazy day I tell ya.

Welcome to Truth In Detailing Brian, lots of information from great folks here and I would like to thank you for your purchase from us. I can answer all your questions for you if like on the phone here at PAC. I do recommend a 6 pack of pads ( 1 orange, 4 White, 1 Black ) and some Snappy Clean too. You might want to get some Meg's 105 and 205 in a 8oz bottle each for any areas that might need some compounding and also general polishing. Anymore question please be free to ask or call:-c me at PAC!
