Head on bike collision today, separated shoulder and a broken bike :(

Doubt the guy has any money, looks like an old hippie. We hit right on the centerline so even if he has insurance, they'd probably say based on the location of the impact fault is 50/50 even though he made no attempt to move over or brake.

Bought the bike used from a customer but new would have been $1600-1800, plus I just picked up a set of lighter wheels which luckily, other than the front one being slightly out of true and the tube bursting, are okay. Should be able to find a comparable frame on craigslist in the $400-600 range.

Word. That is what I figured. Kind of a bummer though. :(

Hopefully you're up and riding again soon.

Shoulder definitely feels better today, bone is dropping back down a bit, a little more range of motion. Hoping to be back on light duty by Monday, be nice to be able to drive my car by then too. Not quite enough movement to shift it yet.

Other than the busted frame, the bike looked like it was well maintained. You should do a bike "before and after" when you get a new one! :)

Bought the bike from one of my customers, he only put about 2000 miles on it and took really good care of it. I got it the day after Christmas this past year and had already ridden 1875 miles on it. Debating whether or not to get another complete bike or just a frame and swap my components and wheels on to it. Really itching to get riding again. had a great ride going when the accident happened. In a really fast group, 21-24 mph pace, had already hit 32 mph on flat ground during the ride.

Couple more mph and you are at TDF pace

Other rider sat down after the wreck for a few minutes, didn't say much other than "I'm not riding again without a helmet". He eventually got on his bike and rode away. Even though I and everyone else would agree he is at fault, I highly doubt the guy has any money or even insurance. Plus since the impact was right on the centerline, even if he has insurance they'd claim fault was 50/50 because of the location of the accident. My shoulder is slowly dropping back down into position, the pain is a lot less than it was Monday night and all day Tuesday.

The paints of the cars in Arlington will miss your arm. But I am sure that your son learned a lot from you, and can take over while you are healing. God bless.

Pain is less but mobility still isn't very good. Should be able to at least do interiors by Monday with one hand, just odd doing most everything lefty for now.

It's odd for me to do anything righty. Seriously, I know it does nothing to lessen the pain, Scott, but a left handed or a one handed detail by you is still a million times better than those of a thousand sub-Autopian detailers. Get well soon!

Look at it this way: detailing left-handed will if nothing else force you to detail while in your right mind! :LOLOL

Trust me, being in your right mind isn't all it's cracked up to be! ;) :chuckle:

I do want to see Scott post his first left handed detail though!

My son will be doing most of the exterior work until I am fully healed. Paint corrections will have to wait until then. My son knows how to use a DA but hasn't yet done a full paint correction so we will mostly be doing basic (1 polishing step) details.

UPdate: Saw an orthopedic sports specialist today who said I was healing up very well, he was surprised by my relatively low pain level and my current range of motion and said he didn't feel surgery would be necessary. He also said I no longer needed the sling but to continue taking ibuprofen and using an ice pack to reduce swelling and quicken healing. He said I can as long as I can tolerate the pain level, I can do what I want. In fact, he encouraged it. :)

Thanks, Accumulator!

Out of the sling 6 days now, shoulder seems to improve every day. More range of motion, more strength and less pain. Able to use my PC7424 XP today without any real problems. I guess just getting back into my normal routine and using my shoulder is the best way to rehab it and teach the muscles how to work without the ligaments (which don't grow back). Minimal lump in my collar bone area too, guess I have enough muscle to hide it.

Also found a new bike frame for $150. Same frame I had (comes from the same factory as my Fuji frame) but with a higher grade of aluminum, slightly more sloping top tube and minor changes in the shape of the tubing. Came with a carbon fork and the seat stays are also carbon. 3.2 pounds including the fork. Should be about 17 pounds once I swap over all my components and wheels. :)
