HD Uno vs Menz SIP

To compare UNO's finishing abilities to 85rd.

UNO cuts as well as any polish except not as fast as 105. Otherwise, there is very little dusting & finishes beautiful. If the MF pad is too aggressive for the paint, use a foam instead. Blue or red.

I am wondering why the test spot with 85rd suggestion ... you think it may be unnecessary or ... worse???

I was thinking uno on an MF finishing pad might be too abrasive for what I (am not sure but am led to believe) is really soft paint (black) on 01 boxsters?

I have to confess ... I'm pretty skeptical ... Uno does sound a little too good to be true ... but in the absence of naysayers I can't come up with a reason not to try it. So I figure I'll give UNO a shot, but because I am in Edmonton (canada) gotta get my pre-winter done QUICK (ugh ... winters fast approaching here ... so fast I am taking shipping times into account) and thus need to order whatever I *might* need ... plus I'd seen a few guys who were finishing UNO off with 85rd to 'jewel' routinely. I guess that means I am wondering about a foam pad (blue? black?) and the 85rd ... just in case? Does that seem sensible?

-I agree that UNO does not cut as fast as 105....HOWEVER it is less work. I would rather do two passes with UNO than deal with the fallout of using 105.

-You have to be careful when comparing UNO to 105/205 as the Megs products look amazing before the IPA wipedown. After the wipedown is when things look very different.

It wasn't that long ago everyone "knew" that to correct / polish paint that was in bad shape you had use a compound on wool with a rotary, then medium polish on foam, then fine polish wih a PC to ensure there were no halograms. The guys that were good could do all three steps with a rotary of course. Companies like Megs, 3M, Menzerna and others all had a half dozen or so polishes of varying strengths. Some guys picked a polish or two from different companies while others were straight 1 company men. Now, think about this, we all had to experiment a little to find the polish that worked on the particular car, and jeez - same thing with pads too. Don't forget you're looking at 3 polishing steps, IPA wipe downs, washing to get the dust out of the cracks, or tape up seems. It's no wonder why details took so long. Now, I remember a new company that came out with a line that claimed to be pad dependant (aren't all anyway) but I bought into it and was too dumb to question if it's the pads, then why did they make 3 polishes?

Fast forward - Megs proved with M105 v2 that you could buy 1 polish to do it all, other companies followed too. IMHO, UNO v3 is the best, it fits my style of buffing perfectly. So, now I can use 1 polish, and with the MF pads - 1 pad, to do 1 step and for the cars I do, that's way above and beyond good enough. Top with POXY without having to do 2-5X IPA wipe downs and you're done! My customers are happy, and I'm making a lot more money per hour!

Please note - I detail daily drivers, typically 5-15 years old for folks that want better than the autospa, but not the show car circuit. I use my extra time to really work on the interiors, makes a huge impact on them the moment they get in to drive home. Win Win!

85rd can sometimes finish better on softer clears.

I'd go UNO/MF for the initial cut and then figure out your next(i.e. last) step from there.

Here in Europe Menzerna has a whole new range. Dunno about the abrasive package in them, so I can't say that they are SMAT or DAT. Of course, my curiosity grows and grows, because the ability of Uno sounds terrific. But how about the new SMAT Optimum stuff? Anyone with a comparo?

A whole new Menzerna line? Or are we talking about them repacking the existing line? I know I hear their is a difference between the Menzerna USA vs the Euro, but just a month or so ago Menzerna has changed its (to me anyways) confusing numbering system for products for something far more simple.

Still the same stuff, just a new bottle/packaging with a much more simple system to understand what is what.

I know there is a newer version of Power Gloss in Europe that cuts and finishes better and much less /no dusting.

But i think it cannot ship here because of VOC ?

Not sure about their other polishes being different. Would love to hear about it if true.

5 bottles of Menzerna or 1 bottle of UNO, that's a tough choice - wait for it.............NOT!

Hey, ya'll do what you like, I don't own any stock in 3D (wish I did) but truth is, I live from paycheck to paycheck, I see the light coming in a few years when we get some cars paid off and my daughter turns 19 and car insurance drops. But, for now, I can't afford to buy a lot of products just to sit on the shelf and get used every now and then. And even if I had a big budget, why buy 3-4-5 etc more things when one will do just fine. I found out if the car was really bad, wet sand with 1500, then hit it with UNO and a MF pad, it'll clean up like a champ.

Could not agree with you more. I think some people are trying to complicate their lives. LESS IS MORE
