HD Polishing Pads

I'm going to pick up some HD Polish to get rid of some light to medium swirls on my 911. What HD pads would you recommend. Is an orange pad too much if it was followed up by a black finishing pad?
 
Well you should get some help from the pro's, I have little experience with HD line, just finished my samples and waiting for my order (including a few pads).



My guess would be to start with a more aggressive polish pad i.e., green. If you don't like the results in a test area move to a yellow or orange cutting pad...



Hope this helps. Thats what i would do at least. Also i dont know how hard or soft your vehicles paint is so i know that will play a part in how it cleans up with a more aggressive pad...
 
Porsche is paint is soft. Just so I understand correct, the green should work for polishing out swirls, with the orange being for really bad swirls.
 
Well im still awaiting my HD pads as well as some others but from my understanding, The green is a polishing pad more aggressive then say blue or white...



They don't rate them based on scratches but how dense and aggressive they can cut based on the abrasive compound used. So if you have light swirls, try with a less cutting pad, if that doesn't do it move up higher....

Let's hope someone with more experience than I responds to this. So much depends on the condition of your paint so adding a few pictures would really help you get some accurate information. And, you need to do a test spot or two to really get your product combo and technique down for your particular situation. That being said everything I've read on this and other forums indicates Porsche paint is on the soft side.



I use Buff & Shine pads that are the same as HD pads.



On my 07 Passat with very hard paint I was able to remove 5 years of hand wash induced light to medium swirls with HD Speed, 5.5" orange pad and speed 6 on a GG polisher. And on my wife's 14 year old Escort with hard paint was able to get great results with HD Polish and UNO-again with a 5.5" orange pad. So perhaps you will be able to use a green pad on your soft paint, but you need to have others on hand just in case you need them. B&S also has a white polishing pad that is more aggressive than the green, but less than the orange.
 
On that soft paint do a test spot with HD Polish and the black finishing pad. Be surprised how much that does on soft paint
 
I am thinking about trying out some HD products also. I'm doing a new vehicle prep on a black Jeep later this month. It has minor defects and I'm looking for something that will finish out really nice. I typically use Meg's products and are interested in 3D prodcuts.

It you read some of the reviews of HD Polish and I think you'll be impressed. It can have some cut to it with a firmer pad, but can finish out fantastic with softer pads. Very long working time, no dust, no heavy oils so it removes very easily--Scottwax only uses an ONR wash after HD Polish before applying OptiCoat so you know it comes off easily.

You won't find a better finishing polish on the market. It's also incredibly easy to remove/strip the remaining oils too in preparation for OC:

HD Polish is definitely the best finishing polish I've used. It comes off as easily as a wax and you can work it forever. I can't stand finishing polishes that dry up too quickly because the dust gets ground back into the paint.



If the paint is soft, the Polish may be all you need with a variety of foam pads. Even the HD/Buff-N-Shine green polishing pads that are the more firm and aggressive polishing pads finish well on my hard GM paint. You may want to go with something more delicate for the Porsche, but I'd probably use the green for correction and the black for finishing. That's what I do on Japanese paint that's usually soft.
 
Ya its amazing what just the green polish pad and Hd polish can do and all paint even GM stuff. I did my dads dark blue suburban aside from correcting some heavy stuff with Cut i did the whole thing with a Green polish pad and HD polish a HF DA speed 4 and the it removed 85% of the stuff easy with little effort and only a couple passes :) My go to polish for sure!
