Have you guys seen this? TSB about Ferrous Metal Contamination/Acid Rain Etching

We've all ready Ron Ketchum's work ;)

That's about all I'll say, since there are MANY members that know him better than I.

After reading that information, heres my views:

1) Acid/Alkali washing the paint down isnt beyond the average guy, but notice they dont say HOW Acidic or Alkaline the washes are ?

They cant be that strong as they dont specify any protective equipment.

A wash mitt doesnt exactly stop the solution getting on yer hand

;)

For all we know a good Dawn wash will neutralize the contaminants just as well.

2) It says Clay 'doesn't remove all the particle' and 'buffing will be required'.

So we know clay removes at least SOME of the contaminant, plus the unsightly stain, which has to be better than nothing, right ?

3)It also says to use a PC with a foam pad. (ok AFTER a rotary .... but alot of Pros use a rotary anyway.)

Seems this is a regular procedure on here:

Dawn wash, clay, compound and finish.

So whats the big deal ?

Its just confirming what we are doing is correct.
