Hate to admit it...

Gotta Clean

New member
I hate to admit, but I have never detailed the engine or engine compartment of any vehicle that I have ever owned. I took the lazy way out and considered it out of sight out of mind! Is there any place here on the forum that offers articles on getting started with engine detailing?

You want to try and stay away from stuff that has power running iin it (fuse boxes, altinators, distrbuters.) know the car your working on (LT1 motors have the opticiol on the front lowwer engine.. you can't help but get it wet. ACP,a good brush and keep up with it.. and them some cheep tire foam or spray..

i wet it down with the hood up ..i spray the underside of the hood and everything with apc then scrub with a long bristle soft brush..blow off with compressed air if you have that or towel dry ..dressing is optional but looks nice ..will attract dust

Don't mean to sound stupid, but I am assuming that APC means All Purpose Cleaner. Would Simple Green work?

I like Simple Green in certain situations. It is not however raw aluminum friendly so if it's not coated don't use it on aluminum surfaces.

Isn't it a better idea to use 303 protectant under the hood vs: cheap tire foam that attracts sand & dust??

In my experience, no matter what you use under the hood will eventually attract dust and dirt. CD2, Armor All, any tire foam, and 303 off the top of my head.

I have used these things with good results

grease lightning
car wash soap
wash mitt (old one just for engine)
soft brush
303
microfiber towels.
