Has anyone removed 3M clear bra film

from their vehicles? A friend of mine is experiencing yellowing of the product and would like to replace it. Any good tips on removing it safely such that the paint is not affected?

I have not, but I've removed similar stuff. My suggestion would be to use 3M adhesive remover, spray some, wait for corner to soften, lift and spray under corner, wait, lift and spray some more, etc until it all comes off. Then, clean off any residue with adhesive remover, wash with soap of your choice, I'd polish it but you dont necessarily have to (use something oil free like SSR1 or PO85RD or AIO), then put the new film on the perfectly clean surface.
 
I was just wondering about that driving home today. I have it on my truck which is 2 years old, no rock chips on the hood so it must be working since it's been off-road plenty of times. How long did it take before you noticed it starting to yellow? Also, if I sold the truck, would it be better to take it off or leave it on?
 
I emailed Xpel about removing the film and a rep mentioned as long as you have factory paint, then the paint should not lift.



In terms of removing it before selling? I would have to say "it depends on how bad the yellowing has become" at the time of sale. If it's on a light colored vehicle, it may be wise to remove it as the yellowing is more obvious. If you intend to sell the vehicle soon, I would remove it ASAP.

A. If desired, film can be removed at any time by picking up a corner of the film and pulling the film off the vehicle surface at a 90-degree angle. If the film has been present a long time, or if the film and vehicle are cold, a heat gun or hair dryer may be used to soften the adhesive, allowing easier removal. If any adhesive remains on the vehicle after removal of the film, it can be removed by using 3Mâ„¢ General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner (3M Part #08984), according to the package directions.



Q. After Scotchgardâ„¢ Paint Protection Film has been removed, how do I get any excess adhesive off my vehicle?

It is pretty much the same process for all clear bras....
 
I thought that stuff wasn't supposed to "yellow". I've never liked the idea of that stuff. That's just me though.
 
Well, i hit something on the road one time and it scratched up part of my clear bra pretty bad. So what i did was cut that section of the clear bra off. I peeled off a pretty big portion and it came of fairly easy. Under the scratched clearbra, my paint was still perfect.
