Hardcore LSP

Hello,

This past week I did a detail on my 95 Monte which "was" in terrible shape (177K miles). It came out pretty good considering I didn't spend much time on correction. I did this mostly to get some gloss back, and more importantly, protect it. I did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for.

Yesterday we had a really bad storm here with hail and acid rain. The car is filthy but I know it will clean right up. This is not a car I am going to clean constantly though. My process was as follows....

Diamond Cutting Cream w/ Light Compounding (cutting) Pad

SMR on Polishing Pad

Collinite 845

What I am looking for is a Hardcore LSP to protect this car from winter salt, and summer acid rain. I don't care about looks on a vehicle like this, just protection! What do I want to use. The 845 is not going to cut it more than a month. I was thinking Super Double Coat or ZCS maybe.... What do you guys prefer for protection.

DG

For outright protection I don't think anything outlasts Z2pro with ZFX. CS is a great product but Z2pro is more durable. The best thing about CS is how fast it is to use and long a bottle will last.

For an average guy a bottle of CS should last 5 years(30-40 applications).

Ooooo.... I just realized that this thread is going to turn into a Sealer v. Nuba debate... sorry...

They always do. :)

I'd go with the Collinite Super Double Coat if you want hard core environmental protection. IMHO, it's still hard to beat a nuba for environemental protection.

And I'll contend that it isn't the Nuba that makes 476 as durable as it is:bolt

IDK, maybe its just me, an LSP isnt going to save your finish from environmental damage. For the most part, many of the popular LSPs whether they are sealants or nuba will suffice.

Trying your best to keep your finish out of the elements, washing regularly, and reapplying you LSP regularly is your best defense.

I would recommend Zaino, Collinite, Fk1 1000P/PW. Just pick an LSP and apply it every month or so.

845 will work fine, just reapply regularly.

Three options:

Collinite 476S

Zaino Z2/Z5

Duragloss 105

You could probably top one of the latter two with the 476S. I don't know of anything that will last longer than these three. Werkstat and Klasse are also long-lasting contenders, but I think the three I mentioned first have the best chance of lasting through whatever you can throw at it. Actually, your best option might be Duragloss 501, though I haven't tried that one. It's supposed to have additives to guard against salt and may have better cleaners. It's basically the marine version of 105, which is why I expect it to last a long, long, time.
