hard water??

hammondc

Damned pollen!!!
I did a search, but couldn't come up with anything. I have VERY hard water at home. It is well water. What can I do to soften it up a bit. No matter how cool it is or how fast I wash and dry, I still get spots. Suds dont last very long either. Even with NXT wash. any suggestions??

You need a water softner for hard water. Did you have your water tested? Are you just assuming it is hard. If you are on well water do you have a filter before it enters your house lines?

no external water softener. neighbor has one of those and it is only for lines inside the house, not outside taps. I was looking for something that could plug inline with the hose that actually works (unlike th mr. clean thing

OK, OK, OK all you have to do it buy either a hot and cold hose bibb or 2 hose bibbs. You pipe cold hard to one and cold soft to another. The best thing you could do is put in a water softner. I didn't really want to bring this up but I am a Master Plumber. Your shower valves, and faucet will take a pounding from the hard water. Get your softner installed and then pipe one line to the exterior hose bibb. I have a hot and cold hose bibb on my house. One side is cold hard and the other side is cold soft. I will have a mixing valve on the house in the near future (I just have to demo it from the current job site). If you have ? PM me, and I maybe able to help. Any type of filter you put on the exterior will have to work twice as hard as it should if you run hard water through it. Up front cost of softner is high, but in the long run it will be low. If you are looking for a spot free finish you need D.I. or R.O. water. Even with soft water you will get spotting. I will post up a link to a unit that I have looked at. Here is a link that you may want to look at. Spot Free Rinse--Click Here

I will be building a new house next may, so I do not want to go throught the expense of a Water Softener now. I am definitle doing one for the new house though. I was looking more for a temporary solution. Thanks for the help though guys. I suppose I will have to dry faster. ha ha

You will need to know such things as grains of hardness and gallons used among other things. I think this would work on a temp. basis. The best thing you can do is take a water sample to Culligan or Fox or who ever is in your area and have them test it. Usually they don't charge for this because they want you to buy from them. Get the water tested and move on from there.

I will ask one of the softner/water filter companies that question this week. I have a water sample to drop off that has lotssssss of iron in it.

Well my water treatment guys tell me that you are SOL. I showed the pics of that Rank unit and basically they said it is a water softner. They are unaware of any type of "filter" that will give you a spot free rinse. They said that the only way to get spot free rinse is to go with RO. Even with a softner you can get some spotting, but not all that bad. I do know of a manufacture that make filters. If you want to contact them PM me and I will put you in contact with them.
