Happy Tax Day!

I spent the day typing out a loving letter to the IRS. It went something like this...

:D

My wife is actually on top of things. She files everything as soon as she gets all the information she needs for it. The only tricky part is that my LLC is seperated into like three different businesses, so organizing what went were is sort of a process. This is why I married an Accountant (among other reasons) :)

Phew...my wife and I got clobbered this year! It took everything we had been saving and then some to pay Uncle Sam!

Not only that, but our taxes jumped tremendously on our house thus causing our escrow to be a little over $800.00 short.:wall

This tax season sucked! My a__ is still sore...thanks Uncle Sam!!!
Thank God it's over!!

:passout:

There are some weird deductions. One time on a return, I was instructed to write off a lady's breast enhancement cost because it related to her job as an entertainer. :) I researched it in the tax guide and i wasn't quite comfortable with that, but the partner on that particular return said to go with it. IIRC, I believe the tax code said something to the effect of it had to be medically related (i.e. due to masectomy). Wasn't the first or last time a partner had me "pull a number out of the magic accounting hat."

Anyone ever get audited? I did once. I donated a law library to a college I was working at. Instead of getting them appraised I just wrote it off for the maximum value it would give me. I guess people don't donate three tons of books very often, so it got the IRS dogs sniffing. Fortunately we still had all our ducks in a row, but it took them three years to send us that dreaded letter. Fortunately it was a year that OCDetails was closed due to working full time and carrying 16 credit hours in my undergraduate course. lol That would have been a rough audit otherwise because I was pretty unorganized back then with that sort of thing.

We feel your pain Tony :passout: :jawdrop::cry: ...

My sister is in a painful boat too. Her husband is listed as a part owner of a hardward store that his uncle started. It has been in probate ever since his uncle died 15 years ago. So every year he has to pay tax on his share of the profits, which, by the way he doesn't get because it is all held in probate. It is lovely to pay taxes on $60K worth of income that you don't actually get. So any extra money they see during the year goes into savings preparing for the tweny grand they have to send to Uncle Sam every year.
