Hammered Nissan - PG/RMG

Got a new camera phone I decided to put into action - still doesn't capture defects like a good camera, but this Nissan was so hammered that it didn't matter. Did I say hammered, cause I meant hammered? This customer took vehicle into body shop to have a small amount of overspray removed - they used a wool pad, probably with diamond cut, and called it good...but not good - a few rogue swirls were so deep that I believe they were all they way through the clear, literally. Horrible Halograms. Though the other side of the vehicle (the one the body shop didn't touch) was also hammered from a few years worth of washes at the loca scratch tub.



4 step process on side the body shop "fixed up", 3 step on the other side:

1) PG/RMG with yellow propel AT 2100 RPMs (left this step out on the half the body shop did not touch)

2) PG/RMG with white LC VC at 2100

3) IP/RMG with white LC VC at 1800

4) FP II with Green Propel at 1500



Here it is in full sun - you can see the halograms from a mile away

Here is the same side after compounding with PG and a white LC VC pad - looks 10 times better, but it still isn't done (sad to think that I can compound dark blue paint and it would actually remove most of the halograms left by the body shop)

This side just had good 'ol washing swirls - in spades.

What really baffled me is that a the body shop got so aggressive to remove a reportedly small amount of overspray (I actually had to remove it off of a panel they missed, and it was nothing a little clay and a quick polish wouldn't handle).



The other thing that struck me was that the surface dramatically improved after compounding with a yellow Propel and PG - would they really hit a dark blue car with twisted wool than turn it loose? Aparently so.
 
That mustang you see in the second to last picture...I did that too. The owner took pictures and should be sending them to me (thank god, cause emailing camera phone pics to myself is a PITA). I hooked the mustang up real proper (oh yeah, the same body shop screwed it up too).
 
I'm seriously going to look into getting into the business (body shop)...cause all the ones I know make good money even though they suck. Sure it might cost a little more to do it right, but you can charge a little more and you'll eventually be overwhelmed with repeat and referral business (a fact I've learned from doing good detail work).
