Guess The Cost to Repair This Bentley?

I know it's a Bentley, but why would that cost soo much more to fix than if the same thing happened to a Honda Accord or any other car? That wheel can be fixed quite easily, why replace it ??, the fender is just a normal fender, straighten out the dent, fill in and paint..

Very expensive cars are made of the same materials as any other car, that is just metal, plastic and paint, simple as that..

How are you guys calculating these figures? I'll give you some hints. The shop labor rate is $95/hr, there's $900 in paint materials, the wheel is $1500 and the alignment is $450. The 1/4 is steel (not alloy) and the dent is a little larger than a soft ball (and can almost be PDR'd if it wasn't on a body line).

ok then....$9 million!

Ok, now for a real guess. $6738.46

Great Point. It's a $1200 repair on a Honda or even a Mercedes.

unfortunately the reason its expensive is because its a bentley, if you were told by everyone that it costs 10k for a repaint, and some other shop said 2k, you would think that the shop is a hack shop and wont use quality materials.

and the same repairs on a Honda or even a Benz would be $1,200, I'd be offended if the repairs were less than $4k, considering the manditory LSP buff out using a half dozen of Lake Country's sable/mink 5.5" pads (if you have to ask the price..........), etc.

Seriously, if you drive a Bentley and can stand the $60k +/- depreciation in the first couple of years, what's the odd $10k here and there (my guess, BTW), especially if an insurance company is writing the repair check and the company with your name on it wrote the check for the purchase. My guess assumes the owner requires all new OEM parts be spec'd and entire panels be repainted (none of that "feathering" stuff, please). New wheel, none of that alloy repair, thank you.

So.....................the closest guess to actual retail price wthout going over is????

The shop's initial estimate was just under $9500. That included replacing the wheel, removing all 4 doors, fenders and trunk with a rate of $95/hr. After going back and forth about how unrealitic their labor times and rationale was, they agreed to do it for just under $4000. (I explained that the Mercedes dealer was willing to do it for $3000). They were claiming that Bentley doesn't allow their wheels to be refinished/repaired, but couldn't produce any documentation to support. The whole problem stemmed from there not being a labor guide to support labor times, so they felt they could milk it for all it's worth. I gave them 6 hours to fix the dent on the dog leg and refinished both 1/4's and the roof (up & over). They wanted almost $1000 to remove the front and back glass and I supplied a guy to do it for $200. The wheel is getting refinished(powercoated) for $130.

I would have guessed ~ $7000plus (assuming they wanted to replace the wheel). Wat they actually asked .......that's amazing, but not surprising, I guess. What's not made in the front-end showroom is made up in the backroom service/bodyshop. Wonder how many naive owners would actually pay that estimate? Regardless, hope they do a good job.............

See ya. :wavey:

I don't get it...why would they have to remove all 4 doors when the damage is only on one side of the car...I don't understand why they'd have to remove any of the doors. :nixweiss:

you obviously don't own a bentley...

Good question Setec - The reason they claim is to eliiminate hard tape lines on the inside of the surround/uni-side jambs. They wanted the repair to be undetectable.

Nearly $10k for what appears to be a minor repair, and they'll probably still have someone making $8/hour do the final wetsanding and compounding.
