Guage cluster plastic

I finally got up the nerve to try and polish out some scratches on my guage cluster. While the product I used (renovo) worked well to get rid of it, it left many tiny scratches, and from a distance (sitting in your seat) the plastic now seems a bit hazy.

After I used the renovo I went and grabbed my plexus and wiped it all down. It didn't really help with the hazyness (up close you can see it's a bunch of fine scratches).

I was wondering what the next step would be to polish those out and give the cluster back it's clarity.

I have used the Novus system on the windscreen of my Harley-Davidson and it works OK. They have a #2 fine scratch remover and a #1 polish. It is available at Harley dealers. You might try that.

It might also be worth looking at replacing the plastic, some cars you can whilst others cannot be replaced. If a new bit is only a few $ it might just be easier to replace.

Unfortunately I have to buy a whole new cluster, and burn the mileage on it. They run about 300 bux not including time to install or burn miles.

Hey!

I have used Meg's Plastic Cleaner and then their Plastic Polish many times and have had great success. The key is to use moderate pressure then lighter pressure on each successive pass. Then follow up with the plastic polish.

Do not expect it to clear up really easy. It will take many, many passes with the cleaner and polish to make it look right!!

Good Luck!

Oh, about replacing the guage cluster...

my brother works for GM; the guage cluster for example in a Trans Am, is all one piece and costs $2700.00 CN !!! OUCH!!!

Try the polish, or maybe an Auto Wrecker if all else fails!
