Today will mark the seventh day since I applied the GTechnig T1 to the tires of my Daily Driver. In the span of seven days we have had two tremendous rain storms. One was last Sunday and the other was Yesterday (Friday 8/10).
Below are photo's taken yesterday afternoon following a morning of heavy rain:
Perspective of the whole car :
The Gtechnig T1 stood up better than I expected a tire dressing to perform given the circumstances it had to endure this past week. I drove the car just over 400 miles in the last seven days in a combination of NYC traffic and open parkway driving. This car spends 24x7 outside in the elements and I did not buff or wipe the tires since last Sunday. After the rains the water beaded on the side walls and spun clean after a short drive. I did not notice any T1 Sling onto the paint even after these rains.
My conclusions:
All the water based products that I have used in the past would not have held up as good as the GTechnig T1. As I have gotten more involved in detailing some of my product preferences have dramatically changed. I used to swear for P21S 100% and now prefer the look of a sealants to a carnauba wax. I also prefer the durability of sealants and their self cleaning properties compared to carnaubas waxes. I am just starting to experiment with coatings. Why do I tell you about sealants & waxes in a tire dressing review? When it comes to subjective "looks" in cars, girls or tire dressings there are certain attributes that are truly subjective. Some people prefer high shine, or low shine, or a matte look. I would say that you could get all three here with T1. One coat, left to dry and buffed off would be close to a matte possible shinier than say SV Penu, One coat left to dry is a shine that looks like a normal dressing and two coats left to dry over night is downright glossy. It looked so glossy that I was expecting it to sling like crazy, but it did not sling at all. I did pass the applicator over the tire, without adding product after about one hour as I do with any dressing. I do this just to be sure that any excess will not end up on my paint or wheels. I tried buffing the two glossy coats after 24 hours with an old MF towel and the gloss levels were unaffected. I think buffing before it was 100% dry would have reduced the shine to a more "new tire look" I personally prefer. The durability is something that I think we all agree on , longer lasting is better. Right? I usually wash my car weekly and I wonder how the tires will react when washed and re-coated? I am not washing my DD this week as another one of my cars grabbed my detailing time and attention this weekend. If you tell me you have not had enough of this review on T1 and me, I will keep you posted on the wash/re-coat in the future.
No doubt it lasted the week and still looks very respectable. Given the elements it was exposed to and the small amount used I think it gets high marks for durability. The economy is another area I will present and not rule on. At $ 19.99 for 250 ML or 8.45 oz (used straight), this is not an inexpensive product and it is also not a prohibitively expensive product to use. I would call it a premium product in performance and pricing. All in all, you get what you paid for. A larger size might make it more economical and I hope as GTechnig grows in the USA the sizes will increase and the price per oz will fall. Do I wish it was $ 20.00/gallon? Sure but is not crazy expensive either.
What I think you can count on if you buy this product is GTechnig T1 is a great tire dressing that will deliver what it claims to deliver at a price that is fair.
If you have any specific questions on the product, please let me know and I will do my best to answer it from my experience with the product. Also, in the spirit of paying it forward, I will let Todd pick a random post of anyone exprssing intrerest in trying T1 to receive a sample of my sample of T1 (I will pay the shipping-CONUS) to try and report their opinions to the forum. This way you all get another opinion that might help you decide if this product is right for you. I will send enough to do a set of four tires, two coats. I used about an ounce on my car. The only thing I ask is that if you win, please put it on your car (not a customer's car)so you can monitor it over a week.
Have a good weekend!
