Grout Sponge doesn't scratch???

I personally love my GS. I've used 3 different sponges and 2 different types of wash mitts and the GS is my favorite. I have not experienced any marring with it.

...........folks will use the GS and shutter at the thought of using a real sea sponge that is a THOUSAND times softer, silkier and porous than a GS. Those who shutter at the sea sponge never even used one!........
I will say I have been very impressed with the sea sponges I have picked up. They work so well I haven't bothered to try a GS yet, but Autopia member EisenHulk gave me one from Lowes that I'll try sometime with ONR.

Considering I just used a grout sponge to actually work on grout, I cringe at the thought of using that type of sponge on paint. It *seemed* way too harsh my tastes, but maybe there are different spondes than what I had /shrug

I think I will stick to normal car wash specific tools for my ONR washes. (Used SM Arnold Lambswool today and was very happy with it).

Grout Sponge user here and loving every minute of it. I'm still really sceptical of waterless type washes, can't grasp the concept as long as I'm able to wash the conventional way.

Not all grout sponges are created equal. I have one I use for big tires, that'll give you an idea of how abbrasive it is. But I have soft black BMW paint to deal with and I use an extremely soft GS. I can find extremely soft GS locally.

Any grit that can cause scratches gets pressure washed off in the first place, for me anyhow. I foam then pressure rinse, and then GS with one of the quality car washs.

I do get light marring if Im not careful. But thats the whole idea about detailing. You have to be careful and use proper procedures.

Spilchy, Ive used a real sea sponge. The increased in cost turned me off. Plus, I can still get marring with a sea sponge if Im not careful. Plus, I cant get them locally. To me there was no benefit to keep using them.

Yes sir. That's the key to marr-free washing for me. Do you ever use waterless washes?

I use waterless washes all winter. 3 Months of the year here, its 0 degrees or below along with loads of salted roads and many gravelly dirty roads. I dont have a drain in my garage, so I cant hose/pressure rinse. Im one of the few who likes QEW better. I find I get less marring with it in the cold. But its really just an opinion, as I havent tried QEW and ONR side by side in the cold.

Nah, I hardly *ever* do ONR/etc. washes, just to clean off polish/etc. during multi-stage details and sometimes for wheels/etc between washes. I'm 100% satisfied with my wash regimen, so I'd be *VERY* reluctant to change it ;) Every time I do an ONR/etc. wash I get some degree of marring, even if it is microscopic...just not a better mousetrap for me.

How long are you guys finding the GS to last? I have been looking at buying a GS but I want to see if the life is worth it...

They cost less than $2.00. Just buy one and give it a try. I bought 4 about 4 or 5 months ago and I’m still on number one. I use it for wheels.

Haha.. no worries on the cost, I assumed that it wouldn't be a high cost, but I hate when things don't last... Now I have some incentive to buy some. thx

the lowes GS has lasted me months (you'll find out how easy it rinses out), it's one of the best $2 i've ever spent...
