Group detailing event in Nor Cal

I read NYD's post about putting together an even for autopia members in NJ and NY to help prepare their cars for winter. I think this is a great idea.

Is anyone that's located in Northern California interested in doing the same thing? I pretty much a novice compared to most of you, but I figure this would give us a chance to swap techniques and maybe try out each others detailing products and learn some tricks.

I figure we have a bunch of people from the bay area and sacramento so we should get a decent turnout. Post here if you're interested. After we get an idea of where people are coming from, we can decide on a place and time.

That would be cool. I'm not in Northern Cali, but I'm up there fairly often. My wife's family is in Lodi and we are out there a couple times a month or so. I'm definatly up for it. Lodi isn't that far from Sacramento. We fly into SMF when we go out there. Jennifer works for Delta so its not a problem. ;) When are you thinking about doing it? This year or next?

It really depends on how much interest there is and when people are availible. If it gets too late, we'll be in the rainy season so it'll be hard to pick a weekend in advance where there will be no rain.

I think if you can throw something together in the next two weeks it'll work this year, otherwise I'm thinking we'll have to wait until the spring time next year.

i'm in the bay area and am also a novice. I just pc 4 cars last weekend and is having a great workout. I would love ot learn some techniques.

Let's shoot for spring. I think it will be a better time of year. We can really work on appearance instead of just winter protection. I think it'll be a great time. :)

I would love to come if I can - please keep me posted. I once organized a session for a bunch of M5 guys, and the Meguiar's rep actually came, gave us a sales pitch but also answer lots of questions, gave out some samples, did some demos. it was worthwhile. He would probably be willing on the same terms as then - which is a committment of at least 15 people to show.

Important thing is a good venue with available parking, 110v and hopefully running water (although we didn't have water.) An indoor location such as a big garage or warehouse provides protection from the elements as well as the ability to better show lighting techniques.

Cool to see there are people interested. I think we'll go for the spring time since that gives us more time to organize.

If people have contacts or places where we could hold an event like this, please send me a PM and I'll try to coordinate as the time draws closer. Places with water would be nice so people can wash their cars after the drive in, but if it just has electricty, that's okay too.

Admins, please keep ths post around if possible so we can build from here next year.

Thanks.

We may not be able to keep it in the Detailing forum that long if it doesn't stay active. If worse comes to worse then it will just get archived. If you need it moved back sometime next year then just let me know and I'll move it back. No worries. Just remember how to search for it so we can find it. :xyxthumbs
