Griot's Motors?

I'm not sure how I got to watching a video about a Diesel Rabbit that Richard Griot had restored, they may have linked it from the Griot's Garage site, but I later realized it was not a Griot's Garage video, it was from "Everyday Driver", who said they were at "Griot's Motors", and I said wait...where? So I looked that up: https://griotsmotors.com/

I'm not sure if this is what Richard has been doing with himself since he has been letting his son Nick run Griot's Garage (or at least be the face of Griot's Garage), or whether Griot's Motors has been extant for a long time.

Apparently they've been restoring cars since 2008

I stopped being a fan when I had to fight like hell to get a polisher replaced

I knew it was a separate business, they'd had for a while, but didn't realize it dated back to 2008. Isn't one of the other Griot's sons running that part? I'm going off deep memories of something I'd heard/read. For some reason I thought Nick was taking over operations of the detailing product company and another family member was running Griots Motors.

I also seem to remember seeing signs for Griots Motors when I went to the Griots Garage store in Tacoma. It was in a separate facility.

I had no idea that they were in the car restoration business. Sounds like a big pain in the ass to me.

So that confirms what Nate was saying about another son. I don't think it's that much of a mystery, I think Richard made some money, got into collecting/restoring cars, and found a way to write it off as a business expense (by using the cars for catalog photos), and after he had built up some facilities/personnel, expanded it.

I think the Everyday Driver guys talked to Nick or Richard about the history of the restoration business on one of their podcasts a few years ago. It followed the release of a video a drive in a couple of the cars from the Griot's collection. Griots is one of Everyday Driver's main sponsors (you can get a discount code from the Everyday Driver web site) so they come on the podcast periodically.

If I remember correctly, it started as a passion project and working on mostly their own vehicles out of the back of their Tacoma site and it slowly grew into a business large enough to be spun off onto it's own.
