Griots Garage

Just stopped by Advance Auto and they had a Griot's Garage display up. They had some microfiber, clay, wheel cleaner, tire dressing, wax, sealant, and some other stuff.

The clay is very soft. Has anyone used it?

D&D AutoDetail- Yeah, I used it a lot before switching to the Smart and Sonus clay. It's good, seemed the same as Mother's but others have said there's a diff between them (and I suspect either/both might have changed since I did that comparison).

I wasn't so keen on using SpeedShine as clay lube though, all the wax/whatever in it seemed to interfere with the claying a little bit.

WOW Griots @ Advanced Auto. This, to me, is great news!

Hmm thatd be interesting. Ive never used any of the products but I probably would if I could get them locally

At least local purchase oughta avoid the steep shipping charges, Griot's is pretty bad on that front.

Autogeek sells some Griot's products (no tools, towels) and they qualify for the usual discounts and free shipping promotions.

JCturboT- Ah, thanks, never thought to check AutoAnything for Griot's!

All this Griot's talk reminds me that I need to return two defective Facom ratchets....

We handle Griot's Garage in Canada.

It is a very good line, lots of detailing liquids and hard goods.

They are a really great company to deal with as well.

The Advanced Auto Parts shows that it is stock on their website in Boca Raton, Florida but when I called them they said they never even heard of "Griot's".

Glad to hear that. I dunno how involved Richard is with the day-to-day any more, but back when he was answering the phone himself he stuck me as a really nice guy...just like, well...so many of the people here.

Picked up some Griots car wash and clay bar today.

I'll be interested to hear what you think of them. What do you plan to use as clay lube?

I usually just use soap and water. Works great with all the clays Ive tried. I used the old ONR as a clay lube but didnt like it, havent used the new formula yet.

D & DAuto Detail- OK, I never had great results with the shampoo-as-lube (that so many people like), but maybe it'll work great for you. Bet it has a lot to do with which shampoo you're using.

What I was really wondering was whether you were gonna use the Griot's SpeedShine as lube; all its "wax", or whatever it is, seems to intefere with the clay a little IMO.

Thanks Accumulator. I think I remember reading that here, probably one of your posts.

D & D AutoDetail- Heh heh, probably...I'm a bit of a broken record on the subject :o Now that Griot's is selling *THREE* different types of clay I'm a little surprised they haven't come out with a dedicated clay lube  Maybe I'm the only person with this issue and they don't see a need to fix something that's not broken :nixweiss
