Griot's Garage 6” RO OR Meguiars G110v2? Input Needed......

Need to know from the people that have actually used these machines….

Even better if you have worked with both.

Again, please limit discussion to these two machines and 1st hand experience.

Thanks in advance..

Griot's Garage 6” RO

OR

Meguiars G110v2

1st hand experience the the G110 V1

Nice and powerful, good ergonomics, and not too loud. Good solid construction and

no quality issues.

Thats basically it... Very solid machine. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the V2.

Deep Gloss Auto Salon- Not having first-hand experience (never tried the G110v2 and my Griot's is still NIB), I can only suggest that you track down the thread where Mike Phillips compared the Griot's to..uhm...whichever machine he compared it to. I forget the details, but the Griot's seemed *so* superior that I got one even though I already have a scad of perfectly good polishers.

if you don't like the Griot's, you have 180 days to return it for a full refund. can't get much better than that...

At Griot's Garage, we want you as a customer for life. Everything you purchase from us comes with a lifetime guarantee against defect. We want you to enjoy our quality products for 180 days and have fun with them! If you don't like it for any reason during this time, return it for a full refund or credit. After that, you're covered with our lifetime guarantee against defect, in which we will either repair it, replace it, or credit your purchase price if we are able to do neither. Some items have a life span during normal use and they wear out. Our warranty does not include replacement of such items after normal use. Of course our guarantee doesn't cover abuse... But you already knew that.

Customers for life. That's our guarantee.

I am not a pro. I bought the Griots for the Customer for Life and the great reviews I read. I have used it a few times and have no regrets. It is more powerful than the other ROs. Hope this helps, but if Accumulator bought one, I think you can pull the trigger!

I had the original Griot's 6", then I got the new version. Awesome. Power to spare. Easy to handle. it's a keeper.

I chose the Griots over the Megs version because of the lifetime warranty.

they are both pretty much rebadged PC units, both great products and easy to use, but the warranty is why i chose the Griots unit.

Heh heh, with any luck it'll be a long, long tme before I do any correction :D

But seriously, I figure that if you're *not* springing for the Flex then you oughta go for the most power you can get, and the Griot's seems to offer that. Plus there *is* that warranty to consider. And I can't think of anybody who's bought one and said they were dissatisfied with it.

Heh heh, I dunno about that...I'm a bit of a tool junkie :o I mean, what non-pro in his right mind needs !eight! polishers?!? And anyhow, I got the two Griot's ones (3" and 6") as gifts ;)

I actually have the Flex:waxing:

I ended up getting the Megs G2

I have the meguiars g110v2 and its an awesome machine. Its very solid, when you apply a lot of pressure, it continues at the same speed, it doesn't bog down. The meguiars 6" pads are very nice also. I used the machine with the meguiars 6" pads and LC 4" flat pads. Works beautiful. Just need to learn how to really get the swirls off haha.

Neither of these machines had any commonality with the PC other than general design - definitely not a rebadge.

The previous Griot's was very disappointing. The new one has had high reviews from a lot of folks including Mike Phillips, who is obviously very trustworthy.

G110v2 has also had a lot of accolades. I've heard some rumblings about quality, but not sure I'd trust that but so much.

That said, given the Griot's appears to be $20 less ($129 vs. $149 for the G110v2) and has an epic warranty, I'd go that way all day long.

They aren't the same machine, for everyone who says they're just PC clones. The meg's has a 4.3A motor, and the Griot's has a 7A motor. Given, amperage does not equate to power, but most motors use current with similar efficiency. The meg's will use 491W of power, and the griot's will use 840W of power. Assuming they work with fairly similar efficiency, the griot's is more powerful.

I am also on the fence on these two DA's. I like the griots for the power and the warranty but I like the megs for the fact that it keeps the same speed even when you apply pressure during polishing, unlike the PC that will actually stop spinning when you apply pressure. Does the griots stop spinning as well or is it like the megs that keeps the same speed no matter how much pressure is applied??

Thanks for the anwers,

Just to chime in since I've used all three tools...

The Griot's Garage Random Orbital Polisher has the most power out of all three DA style polishers, on paper and on a car, by on paper I mean here's the specs as included in an article I just posted on the topic of the drive mechanism and a little on the history of where the PC came from.

Dual Action Polishers that use Free Rotating Spindle Assemblies

Porter Cable 7424XP

4.5 AMP

500 Watt Motor

5 pounds

3 Year Limited Warranty - 1 Year Free Service - 90 Days Money Back

Griot's Garage Random Orbital Polisher

7.0 AMP

850 Watt Motor

5.5 pounds

Griot's Lifetime Warranty

Griot's Garage 3" Mini Polisher

2.0 AMP

240 Watt Motor

Griot's Lifetime Warranty

Meguiar's G110v2

4.2 AMP

430 Watt Motor

5 pounds

1 Year Limited Warranty

So on paper, it has the most power and if you go out into your garage and keep everything equal, that is same pad, same person, same chemical same panel, then the Griot's Garage will be better able to keep a pad rotating under pressure and that's when paint is removed and thus that's when defects are removed.

As for a general comment, here's what I wrote on page 6 of this thread,

Griot's ROP that much more powerful the PC 7424XP? - Page 6 - Auto Geek Online Auto Detailing Forum

Sure I agree with you, I think most car guys would agree more power is better, just look all dimensions of the car hobby culture, it's all about power!

I've met a lot of car guys and even car gals that want to take care of their car's finish but they don't go to the extremes like many of us do in the forum world. They don't care to get out each and every scratch and they don't even care if they get out all of the swirls. If they get a polisher and do a simple paint polishing process to their PT Cruiser or their Mazda Miata and when their done the paint looks clear and glossy, and the result they're seeing look way better than any results the achieved by hand, then they're happy.

On paper the Griot's Garage ROP has more power and out in the garage the Griot's Garage has more power from what I can tell and based upon my experience.

So if you want the polisher with the most power this would be your choice but all 3 of the 2nd generation polishers have enough power to keep pads rotating and that's what's important when removing swirls.

The Griot's Garage polisher is still the new kid on the block and time will tell if the reliability is there with the power. The warranty is great but from behind the scenes, I've seen how people act when a tool stops functioning and that's why I wrote as gingerly as I could that if you're the type of person that gets upset when a tool malfunctions then maybe go with a tool that has a time-proven history of reliability.

I met Richard Griot at SEMA this year and he's the real deal as far as being a car guy goes and just as nice in person as you see him on TV or expect after reading any thing he's written on his website or in his catalog. I'm confident they've done their homework when it comes to launching a new tool and and if any problems do arise then they'll address them. Meguiar's ran into a few glitches when they first introduced their polisher and they tackled them head-on and refined their tool to be one of the top 3 tools in this category. You would expect on less from Meguiar's and you should expect no less from either Griot's Garage or Porter Cable. That's the nature of doing professional level business.

So everyone reading this needs to study and evaluate their different options when it comes to any electric polisher and then evaluate themselves and then make their decision.

Whichever tool a person buys one thing for sure, the staff here at Autogeek and myself will be here to support you with your detailing projects and see you through to success in your garage.

:)

The way I find that passage I wrote is I simple do a word search using the word upset.

Nothing I've written is inaccurate or should be taken as a negative against any company's products, all I did was state facts and the facts are the Porter Cable unit has a long, time-proven history as being a reliable tool.

It could be both the Griot's Garage ROP and the Meguiar's G110v2 will rival Porter Cable for reliability also but a few years have to go by first.

Make sense?

So evaluate all 3 machines and then evaluate yourself and then make the decision that you feel best suits you and your needs.

All three companies are reputable companies and in a worse case scenario, "if" a tool fails you can get it replaced or repaired and the world moves on. I've worked with the people at Meguiar's for over 22 years now and they have a flawless record of customer support. I met Richard Griot at SEMA this year and what I wrote about him above is accurate. He'll also be at this year's Detail Fest and I look forward to meeting and talking with him again.

:)

Mike Phillips- Nice of you to express how nice a guy Richard Griot is. He sometimes gets some flak here that I consider undeserved.

Back when he was first getting started and still answering the phone himself, I was struck by how downright *likeable* he is. Glad to hear he'll be at DetailFest, I'd heard that he's not as (personally) involved with Griot's Garage as he had been in the past.
