Griots Garage 6" RO. Is it me?

The attachment makes even the flex 3401 feel like a toy, not sure if you need it, if you want to emulate speed 4 on a da. :D For me, lower speeds don't work well, speed 5 or 6 is what does it.

I use DB and Megs MF pads with my flex small 3403 rotary all the time. I crank it up to speed 6 on the 3403 which is around 3600rpm. Not sure what that makes the OPMs.
 
I bought the GG machine because I was soo un-happy with lack of reliability of the Porter Cable machines in my personal experience over the last couple of years.



I'm only a weekend warrier, doing 2-4 cars a week at best but I was still getting just over a year out of my PC's before they were toast and needed to be re-built or replaced. At that rate I figured the lifetime warranty of the GG was going to be a huge benefit to me.



Sadly, like you guys my GG machine lasted right about 6 months then died, While I do keep at leaset 2 orbitals in rotation at any given time it is still going to stink if I'm down one unit every 6 months waiting on them to be fixed or replaced.



I may need to look into the DB attachement for my DeWalt rotary instead.

Good to know. I only asked because of the heating issue the MF pads may have (and subsequent pad failure) on a DA when the speed is too high.

Its kind of different on a DB. You dont need that extreme pressure when using a DB like you do on the GG to get effective cutting power. I still apply some pressure on the DB when heavier cutting is required, but nothing like with the GG.
 
My Griot 6" should arrive on my doorstep any moment now, according to the tracking information. I have a brand new car and want to treat it as best I can. I like to use Duragloss products by hand but have never used them with an electric polisher before. The thing is I only seal my paint once every six months so I am pretty certain that it will outlast me twice over!!

That's weird because when my initial MF pads melted, I was told to lighten up on the pressure and lower the speed, on my GG6. I assumed is would need lower speeds regardless of what machine the MF pads were used with??

The 601/105 1 to 4 mix goes on great with a 5.5" red pad and the Groits--so much faster than by hand and you can spread it very thin for easy removal.

Yep, the polisher just arrived. That 5.5 red pad info is good to know. I was not sure what pad to use with these products. Thanks!
 
For anyone who looks at the GG, realize if you bought a "Professional 6" RO" make sure you ask for one back, because the new ones do not say professional on them.



And they screwed themselves on the polisher as well, since on their website at one point it said "safe enough for a beginner but powerful enough for a professional."

FWIW, I took everyone's advice and got a DB attachment; so far so good. It took a little getting used to but overall it seems solid; I definitely don't worry about it like I did with the GGs DAs. I may look into the Rupes when I get a chance but for now the DB is working well. Thanks!
