Griots 6 inch DA

First let me say how thankful i am for this forum, first post but god you guys are the best resource!



My issue is with the backing plate, i got a few 5.5 pads and need to change the plate on my DA. Obviously i can find them on the net but am wondering if any local (sears, harbor freight, etc) sells these parts?



Is everyone buying a 3 inch of some kind or just a 4 inch backing plate and using a full size DA for smaller areas?



Also is there a difference in a backing plate for a DA and Rotary?

Some local parts stores might have them.



I've been using a 3.5" or 4" plate with my PC.



DA and Rotaries usually have two different size threads and the rotary usually uses a female backing plate and the DA a male.
 
Locate a PBE Store, that means Paint, Body and Equipment, these are auto parts stores in your home town that cater to the body shops in your home town thus they care paint and solvents and everything a body shop would need to paint cars.



They usually have DA backing plates.





Stores like Autozone, Pep Boys, etc. are "Hard Parts" stores and they usually won't stock backing plates as they cater to Joe Consumer.



Might check with a NAPA store too...

Stupid question of the day:



As someone who is considering the purchase of the new Griots DA, will I be able to use the backing plate from my PC on the Griots (I know the Griots comes with a 6" BP)? I'm guessing the answer is yes, but I want to be sure.

Not stupid at all.



Yeah, the Griot's and PC units take the same backing plates. Even the Cyclo uses the same mounting system (something to consider when choosing small backing plates for use with 4" pads).
