Griot Clay, Speedshine, Undercarriage and microfiber review

Is it possible you got clay streaking from not using enough lubricant?

Would the Speedshine be a good product to use if you had carnauba on your paint?

What other brands of microfiber have you used to compare to the Griot's? Did you try the scratch test on a CD?

Sorry for the delay didnt see the post!

There was no way I wasnt using enough speedshine it was dripping on the floor down the side of my suv I was spraying it so much. Stuff was everywhere, and it didnt make a difference.

Speedshine is Carnuba based so I guess its compatiable with all Carnuba based waxes/polises. But im not expert on that subject.

Nothing that you cant get at autozone or struass. It was my first internet MF. Im ordering a bunch of Pakshak's now.

No cd test, a cd is not my paint. I dont agree how that test is suppose to be affective. It didnt really matter cause I wasnt even going to consider using the mf towel.

Thanks Chris

Tasty- Sorta an inside joke...I sent back a bunch of stuff (>$350 worth) to Griot's at the urging of one of their reps- their idea. I gave detailed explanations for why I was returning and told them to handle it however they liked (credit, refund, whatever). They immediately quit sending me catalogs and I have to browse their website to keep up with their products/prices. I ask for catalogs, they say they'll send them, but they never do. Even quit sending them to my wife (different last name). I seem to be persona non grata at Griot's despite having spent thousands there ever since Richard was answering the phone himself and always telling people to buy their BHBs and other products!

Yeah, I gathered from your various posts that you were not in good standing with Griot's anymore. Oh well, huh? Life goes on...

A friend of mine uses someof Griot's products, but not so many. He likes their polishes.

As far as wax goes, after seeing what Mike went through with their Best of Show wax, I surely would not even try it.

Griot's has done a great job with finding unique products that most folks would not know where to get. The above mentioned plastic coated sockets are a good example. If memory serves me, I bought the exact same sockets, in the same red plastic case for about half of Griot's price at a Harbor Freight store.

Tasty....at least from watching my friend Mike, it seemed to be difficult to remove, and have a very short lifespan on the car. I also was not all that impressed with the shine. It seemed like a lot of work for a mediocre result and short durability.

Tasty- Well, some of their products really *are* worth trying. The smaller BHBs, their polypro window towels, their interior cleaner, and their Car Wash really are good and I haven't found them anywhere else.

Matt M, PA- Wish I'd known HF had those plastic covered sockets! But as you said, Griot's is a (known) source for stuff like that...ah, the expense of one-stop shopping :o

Accumulator....I found them there by mistake! A friend and I took a road trip to Allentown Pa, (about an hour for us) just to see what it was like. Lot's of really cheap junk for sure, but some good stuff too. I was surprised to see that even on their cheap hand tools they offer a lifetime warranty.

Matt M, PA- Well, that was a good stroke of luck then. I just took the easy route with Griot's, but I never thought of trying the HF store right down the street :o

I guess I didn't think of them because I always equate them with cheap stuff (yeah, I know, that's too much of a generalization). I always shy away from cheap tools, even with the guarantee; they always seem to break at the worst time, when an eventual replacement won't do me any good. Heh heh, think of the "wisdom" of keeping a "cheap set of tools" in the trunk for emergencies ;) That lifetime replacement won't do much good on a rain-swept highway in the middle of the night.

About cbheap tools....agreed!

We went to see what the store was like, and did manage to find a couple bargains...the sockets being one. The other, for me, was a tie-rod seperator that I saw at NAPA for $18...same exact casting and all at HF....$5.

I love my SpeedShine and Car Wash shampoo, get them by the gallon, even though they're pretty expensive. Never tried the MFs, as I mostly use Pak's.

I still have a package of clay left, but will try others when done with that.

:doh Well, that figures! We don't have a Harbor Freight store near me but I do get their catalog. I never thought to check it out.

Fortunately the sockets were for sale at Griots. I got the SAE and metric set for about the price of the metric alone. They are a nice set of sockets and are just what I needed for my car's lugnuts.

As for detailing supplies, with all the choices out there I doubt if I'll order from Griots.

Agreed. I'm no fan of the best of show wax... it is difficult to remove, and on my car (which is an outside car) it lasted about a month... :nomore:

I just ordered undercarriage spray and wheel cleaner from them. Mainly because I wanted to see if the wheel cleaner was a good, cheaper alternative to the P21S wheel cleaner. I guess i'll post what I find when I get my order...

Most of their products (griots and adams) are indeed overpriced. However with that said, there still some space for them. For example, you may really like one or 2 of their products even if you believe the rest is not worth it (they may not be).

I would never pay either of them $30 - $40 for a gallon of soap or upholstery cleaner. That's just absurd.

However there are certain things they might do well and may be cost effective in the long run or just make you happy. Some people swear by Adam's detail spray, I've seen quite a few of them, it's $40 a gallon but if it may be ok, if it makes you that happy.

Or as in my case, I am looking for something I can buy in a gallon size that works as I want it to. I normally use Eagle one or P21S, someone suggested to me that griots wheel cleaner works similar to p21s, except a gallon is $30, whereas a gallon of (actually 1.3 gallons) of p21s wheel cleaner is almost a $100. If I were to buy enough bottles of Eagle one to make up a gallon it would cost me $30. So in this respect, if Griot's can do the job just as well for the same price as the cheap stuff and lower than the expensive stuff, then I'd be willing to buy it, ie it has "earned" it's place.

But let me reiterate, I absolutely DO agree that their products in general are overpriced.

Why do people make comments when people revive older threads? Shows me that people are reading through the older posts and not starting new ones? :up

Different opinion here, IMO their Car Wash is worth every penny of ~$40/gallon. Doesn't strip my LSPs, incredible lubricity/encapsulation, good cleaning power.

IME it's better than Meg's #62, Pinnacle Bodywork Shampoo...better than *any* other shampoo I've tried (and that's a long list).

I might try the Optimum shampoo, based on Tom P.'s experiences, but other than that I doubt there's anything else on the market in the same league as Griot's Car Wash.
