Hello everyone, great forum here. I've created an account here so I can gather information for a prospective shop I'd like to open up. A little about me:
I'm 29 years old, I've been mechanic for 12 years. Cars (actually just about anything with an engine) are my absolute passion in life. After 8 years in the Air Force and a couple of years overseas as a contractor, I've decided that I'd like to try working for myself so here I am! I don't have much experience going as in-depth as I've seen many of you do but I'm surely looking forward to learning as much as I can.
Both of my vehicles are black (a 2006 Corvette and a 2007 Silverado)- I plan on practicing on these before touching a potential clients vehicle. I've had vehicles polished to perfection in the past and I remember what an awesome feeling it was when I went to go pick them up. It was like getting a brand new car! This is what I want to provide for people in my area. I live between Orlando & Daytona beach and have only found a couple of other shops offering this kind of service in my specific location. I've seen more than a few higher end vehicles driving around so I believe I'm in a pretty good location to open my doors.
I've been saving for a long time and have explored many avenues regarding business ownership. I believe this is great option for me because, A. I LOVE being around various types of cars, trucks bikes and boats. B. Being a mechanic is slowly losing it's appeal, and C. I want to be my own boss.
I've found what I believe to be a pretty good location- There is an automotive repair shop that specializes in high end imports located on the same block as the warehouse I'm looking at. As far as equipment goes I am still putting together a list but I have researched wastewater collection so that I am in compliance with EPA regulations and such. My plan is to use a water containment mat and reclamation pump for the hand washes/engine bay work. I think that if I transfer all of the waste water into a compliant container I can arrange disposal with a local provider on a set schedule. My plan is to use the best materials I can find. I have been watching Barry Theals videos and found them to be very informative. I will likely be using the HD products mentioned on this forum.
As my plan comes together and sees fruition I will definitely pop in and provide updates. I'm really looking forward to pursuing this and learning as much as I can along the way.
