I love Mother's Clay Bar, and I am very happy that I can get it for right under $14 at Wal-Mart. The only thing is, I have no use for cleaner waxes, and the Mother's QD is the worst I have ever used. $14 isn't a bad price at all, but considering one clay bar only gets about 5 uses, that's $2.50 - $3.00 a car, which is the most expensive item to apply per car. For comparison, each Klasse is about a dollar to apply per car. The price of clay builds up quickly when I have to use clay bars on lots of cars. Is there anywhere that I can buy just the clay bar, possibly a few clay bars at a good price? I am wasting too much money on QD that I don't use and cleaner wax that I'll never use.

Chuckmotor, I got an email from Mothers recently about the clay bars. I believe they were like 3 for $24 or something but I am not positive. Hope it helps.

Chuck,

Someone gave me an email address I think it was [email protected] and I emailed and she gave me a number for ordering the 3 pack.
You can either email her or email me for the number...it must be the 1-800 form the website I imagine.

I started a thread like this a few weeks ago. The Mothers clay bars are 80g each. If they do sell a 3 pack for $24, thats a total of 240g at $24. Not a bad deal.

My other alternative was Clay Magic. They have a their blue clay bar which is 200g. Buying it can be difficult though. I got a quote as low as $25 to as high as $36 from local retailers.

Either way is good. It all depends on time and gas (or shipping)to get the products I guess.

I was in Wal-Mart today and saw the Mother's clay bar system for $13.97. Seemed like a pretty good deal, until I saw how small the clay was. It was about 1.5"x2" and about .25" thick. I have a hard time believing that this little bar will work for 5 cars. It was so small, I thought it would be difficult to work with at all. I have been using Klasse and Pinnacle Souveran but this would clearly be the most expensive car care product I have if measured on a cost/use basis.

Mike,
It really all depends on how bad the car you use the clay is. I was able to use it on our 3 cars, now it's too dirty to use. It is an 80g bar, but I probably could have gotten more uses out of it if I had done what other Autopians do, which is they cut the bar in 2 or 3 pieces.

Hey Chuck if Mother's doesn't come through for you try some clay magic it is a good product, and autodetail.com has the 200g bar for $28 and offers a 10% discount if you become a member.

There used(maybe still is:)) to be a member floating around by the name of of Forrest. He was somehwat high up on the food chain over at Mother's if memory serves. Maybe you can find an old post of his floating around, his e-amil was in his profile.

I was at a local AutoZone the other day and saw something that amazed me . . . CLAY MAGIC! Okay, before you laugh at me, I've only seen this stuff in body shop suppliers.

They only had 1 box out, they said it was a new item. Wanna know the amazing part? It was only $10 for a 100gm bar and 12 oz of lubricant.

ASk your local autozone if they have any in the back. This was an autozone in Escondido, on Mission rd I believe.

I found the Clay Magic bar at AutoZone for $10 too. It was the only box on the shelf. Right next to it was the Meguiar's clay (for a couple $ more). I wasn't sure which to get. Then I thought back to recent threads. Needless to say, I ended up getting the Clay Magic box.

Now if the weather would get a little better (ok, a lot better), I might be able to work on my car again!

The e-mail address for those looking for our 3 clay bar pack (part # 07243) is [email protected]

Those of you with an AutoZone nearby can find Clay Magic's new mini-pack of a clay bar and 12 ounces of lubricant for about $10.

They're really driving the price of clay down.

Hope this helps.

I have used the Mothers Yellow Clay and the Clay magic Blue.

I find the mothers gets a little slimy and difficult hold as compared to the CM. Both worked well but I give an edge to CM for ease of use and removing contaminates.

Also the CM comes with a great storage container whereas tghe Mothers came with none in my kit.

I have used mine on 3 cars (Maxima, Accord, Concorde) and literally had to throw it out. I am going to get the Clay Magic.

in Ron land, this situation is the kind where they would break out the ABC because they do cars in volume

but of course ABC and clay don't exactly do the same thing, but it might be a good substitute if you're doing a lot of cars

I think this is a misconception about the ABC system. Yes, it is meant for working on quite a few cars a day since it does wok a little faster than clay, but its still great for guys like us, Autopians, who want the absolute best results. ABC, in my experiance, works better than clay, and is safer in the process. I highly, highly recomend you guys try it.

Hello all! My name is Chad and I'm addicted to polished cars. Seriously though, I've been detailing for 5 years now and it's a real passion of mine. I'm big in the import car scene, I own a Infiniti G35 that's heavily modified and it's not a cheap hobby. Detailing was something I always did just for my cars or friends every now and then. As I got more into modifying my car, the more I knew the wife was not going to be happy. As I got involved in the car scene, the more people saw my car and would always ask how I was able to get it to shine the way it did? Well the light bulb went off and I started Clean Edge Detailing, cleaning up cars on the weekends and before I knew it, I was slammed with cars. My wife was cool with me using money I made off detailing on my G35 so a mini business was born. I look forward to sharing some of the jobs I've done and contributing whatever knowledge I have that others might find useful.

Polish on!

Chad
