Green With Porsche Envy!

Below are pictures of a rare 1994 Porsche Turbo. Rare because I believe they only made the 3.6 Turbo for one year, which was 1994, and so far I have not been able to find another one in Signal Green.

Signal Green is a color for a few select people, me being one of them, as it is a very LOUD and bright color and if you just want to blend in with the crowd you'll hate this car. I got more rubber neckers tripping over themselves while gawking at this Porsche than any other perhaps. The color is perfect for an exotic such as this Porsche....with only 19k miles on it.

I have no BEFORE pics because the day I started it drizzled and was very overcast. Today when I finished it was very cold and raining so I only have AFTER pics of it in the shop, under shop lights.

The Paint condition - Environmental damage in the form of water etching and pitting. It was a single stage paint and had some bonded contaminates on it. Marring and some deep random scratches.

My form of paint correction - To correct the water spotting and pitting I would of needed to wetsand and the owner was not up for that nor was I really as it's going to be a driver and not a concours or garage queen. Besides, wetsanding a Porsche can actually knock points off the car so in terms of a concours car it's best to leave it alone.

I used Optimum Polish for 90% of the correction plus the finishing work. I used orange, wool, Lake Country white, blue, green, black and white finishing pads during the buffing process. I had to use some Hyper and Compound in a few areas. Cyclo finished the car off.

I applied 2 coats of Opti-Seal about 45 minutes apart. 24 hours later Ron came over to help out (he detailed the interior) and he then also applied 2 more OptiSeal coats. So we have a total of 4 OptiSeal coats on the Porsche.

We also had the chance to use a few other products.

Zaino on the tires

A foaming glass cleaner

Z5 Pro on the wheels

Some Meguiars pads

The paint now looks as if you licked it it would taste like Sour Apple:D

Now I know that artificial lighting can make just about any car look glossy and wet so I hope that it looks good also in the sun and I hope on Monday it is sunny so I can see what it looks like and I'll take and post more pictures. This last picture though best represents the true color of Signal Green.......Mmmmmm it's candy:chuckle:

Thanks for looking,

WOW! This is the second car I have seen posted in the past few days with amazing wetness and reflection, the other was the JDM tsx. Awesome.

That color would only work on a Porsche or Beetle LOL :D

How about a Pinto?:rofl

What a great car, and great work! I needed an upper this evening, and this car did it!

Thanks!!

What wonderful work on a great car! It looks like a very fast and shiny Granny Smith apple!

Hey thanks all...."granny smith apple" LOL:chuckle:

Another person said it looked like a big wet green frog!!:spit:

I sure hope it looks just as nice in the sun. Hope to get some pictures up of it in the sun next week.

Kinda makes ya thirsty looking at it for a apple soda or something eh?

Anthony, that porsche is lookin lovely. First time i've seen that color. Like a granny smith apple soaking in water.

Wet! Thoughts on Zaino? Dang that is wet looking! Pretty useful that you can layer it within 45 minutes! How many polishing stages did you do? Jeeze! Any particular reason why Concours frown at wetsanding? Guessing it loses that OEM Orange Peel perspective).

Happy Resurrection Day people and thank you all for the compliments.

Anthony that's a really cool car and great work as always!

I didn't know you use a cyclo - maybe I should try one out. I usually use my PC for finishing.

I almost always finish off with the Cyclo on dark colors to ensure a swirl free finish. Nothing worse than driving a black Porsche out in the sun only to find swirls running through the paint like a flowing ribbon:faint:

Light colors I can end with a rotary and a finishing pad/polish.

The Zaino is all I expected it to be. Went on easy, removed easy and the smell....like working in a candy store :) Nice product. I would of used it on the paint but by the time the Zaino stuff came by I had already applied 2 coats of OS. We'll get a chance to use it on some cars paint this week I'm sure.

All in all some areas of the paint got about 5 steps of polishing....from a wool pad down to a finishing pad and then the Cyclo. There's a lot of man hours on just the exterior paint..perhaps 10 hours in total.

The reason concours hit a sanded Porsche is because they have, as you noted, removed the OEM orange peel. This is for PCA events and is not of any effect for local "clean car" contests.

Thanks again,

Anthony
