I am looking for any additional tips on wet sanding on fresh paint. My car looks amazing with fresh paint, but I still need to wet sand and buff it. I plan on starting with 1200 grit and going to as smooth as I can find paper wise after a week.



I have almost the full Pinnacle line up including the Souveran Wax, most of the 3M line, and a good amount of the Mequires. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for what level to start with on fresh paint to remove wet sanding marks, swirls, and add a layer of protection.



I know I need to let everything cure a month or more before starting this, has anyone had any expereince on this?

look for the thread that called Scratch Repair started by the man himself, david b. it will tell u alot of what he recommends. and what he recommends is usually the best! its in this detailing forum...



i tried his teqniques and it worked wonders for my car.



heres what i did: i basically wet sanded with gold class wash, then 3m rubbing compound, then SMR, then PPCL, then meguiars scratch X. the scratch X is not necessary at all but i just like to put even more swirl/scratch reducers on top on one another:D . then just follow with ur prefered wax/sealants:up

well its a 99 so its not that new. plus i did it to remove my few scratches, not the parts where it was perfectly fine
 
sand marks....the 3m rubbing compound with a rotary sander with heavy cut foam or wool pad...the dual action polisher isnt good for this part...but great for rest...then with 3M swirl remover if u have swirls you can use the PC 7424 DA for this... then the 3M microfinishing glaze...get sonus sfx pads to go with DA polisher...then top with fave wax...



Ive heard several different opinions on the wax....ranging from 2 weeks to 6 months of cure time...i waxed mine bout 3 months later....but only cuz weather here sucks...lol...



what color u paint it? i just got done with my first paint job ever...the whole process took me months lol...but then im pretty anal...and i used MEGUIARS EXTREME TIRE SHINE ON MY PAINT JOB LOL (was a big debate over it previously)



im far from a computer nerd...but im gonna try to put some pics up
 
I went with 3M 1500 wet/dry paper. Removed wetsand marks with 3M extra cut with white 3M pad. This combo produced some noticable marring so I followed that with IP on a gray 3M pad, then Blackfire SRC FP topped with Blackfire wet diamond. This produced a scratch free, swirl free finish on my black e34
 
Over the winter we got lots of snow and my daughter was helping to clean my new ride with a scaper which left marks all over the car.

Well I finally was able to detail my car.

I used Klasses AIO by hand to remove the scaper marks, and other blemishs from the winter.... Then BFWD the car and WOW I am very happy today!!!

Hey Dave... the car looks Great!!!! Isn't it nice when winter is behind us and you get some nice spring days you can work outside without freezing!
 
Looks sweet the SHO, bet that bad boy has some power to it. Glad to see you got those marks off the car. She looks very sharp!:wizard:
 
Nice looking finish on the SHO. Ford's current lineup really impresses me.

It's like 80F here in Buffalo, NY today. It feels great to finally be able to cruise around in a clean car in awesome weather!

Looks nice! You're having the weather we had earlier in the week. Now it is cooler and really windy.

April is our 3rd snowiest month so it's still too early for a full detail...I'm getting restless and ready to fire up the Flex and also try my new pressure washer on the wheel wells.

I'm very happy with this car.....but I only have 5000 miles....my average fuel burn is 19...I did get a 25mpg on a 300 mile trip. Very impressed with all of the features ford has offered.
365hp on a v6...running upper 13's in the 1/4 mile but I've read that a tune can shave 1 sec off that. I would have prefered a mustang but for a 4000lb family car I'm tickled to death!!!

Great job on the SHO. Now take it out, do some burnouts, get it dirty, and start over. That way every day can be great :D
