GPS-TomTom ONE...anyone have them

YNOT

Poorboys Rules!
Anyone have one of these TomToms or any portable GPS for that matter? If so, how is it?

We're looking at getting one as a gift for someone and I'd love to know if it's any good.

We've only got about $300.00 to spend which is why we are looking at the TomTom one. I'm not quite sure how much more you really get with the more expensive units if if the extra cost is worth it.

Any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

I've got one, I just purchased mine a few weeks ago as i was tired of printing mapquests out. I got a basic cheap model, paid 175$ for it. And So far so good.

I've used one of the high dollar units also, it was just under $1000. Used it to go up to maine And honestly besides the layout and the extra features telling you where gas and food is,etc. They both do the same thing, tell you where to go. :D

I'm in no position to give you any advice on these. The only time I've used any of them was whatever was included in a Hertz rental. That said, I received an inducement on a re-manufactured unit that looked like a pretty good buy. I buy re-manufactured electronics from time to time. If the warranty is the same as a new one I'll typically give it a shot if I'm in the market. Little side bar here but this same company offered re-manufactured IPods (30 GB) for $139 around Christmas time retail was $249 for a new one and they were the current generation at the time. I bought 3, one for each kid. To date no problems with any of them and to look at them you would never know that they weren't new. Here is the link.

who makes the unit you have??? I am looking for a lower priced GPS

I have had a tomtom for about 6 months now and it is a pretty nifty tool. I love NEVER being lost now, especially with gas as high as it is getting, I can't afford to drive around looking for where I'm supposed to be.

I don't have any long term experience, but several months ago I rode with a local delivery driver who was using a Tom-Tom unit, unfortunately I don't recall the model, it gave the driver accurate door-to-door verbal directions (ie. turn (right or left) here etc.). He commented that since purchasing his unit, he never was lost during deliveries including the downtown urban areas. He highly recommended his unit.
