Got my PC in the mail, any last minute tips?

So, I got the Porter Cable from Coastal Tools and the Sonus pads from Autopia. I read David B's very helpful intro to the PC, and have read every thread on the topic I can find here. Now, I ready to get started.



I want to wash and clay the car tommorow, then I figured I'd apply Klasse AIO to the car, using the polishing pad (its a one year old vehicle that has been garaged, and there are no swirls or other finish problems yet).



Any last minute hints? Tricks, traps, things to avoid?

IMO I would skip using the PC. If there are no finish problems there's no real need for the PC. AIO is really easy to apply by hand.

You can always go nuts with the stock foam pad and buff the countertops in your home :).
 
Sounds good. Are you going to SG the AIO? How about A LSP? If your car ia a dark color I would definitely LSP with a paste wax like P21s or PS. Good luck and enjoy the process. I love my PC.
 
Yeah, I'm going to put on two layers of SG afterwards, and then UPP. I have S100 on my shelf, but the car is a light silver-blue and I loved the way it looks with multiple layers of SG (and frequent detailing with SONUS after washes).



gnahc79 - I respect your point. There have been other posters here who have had similar comments with regard to AIO. I guess I really just want to give it a try. But, I agree that AIO works fine by hand.
 
Like gnach79 said, it's not really necessary to use the PC, but dammit, you just bought it! It's mandatory by curiosity's standards that any new toys (especially detailing toys) must be used ASAP. The stock white PC pad is crap. Whatever you do, don't try to spin dry the pad, especially at speed 6. If you need proof, I'll find my old thread for you.





BTW, AIO is great on windows if you haven't tried it yet.



And don't be afraid to toss that PC up to speed 6. The worst you can do to the paint (as long as you are human and not just an ape) is to drop the machine on the paint ;)

hmmm, can you point me to this thread? I did this a couple times. didn't do it at speed six but at 4.

I bought the SONUS pads (which look nice) so I won't have to use the stock pads.
