Haven't tried any specialty detergent (Microrestore, etc) yet but I thought of using Dreft as it's supposed to leave less residue to irritate skin. It doesn't clean very well though but I might try it again with some less soiled towels.
I've since been using an environmentally friendly additive/softener free deterent I found at Trader Joe's. Sorry, don't remember the name, purple bottle with pink cap. Very concentrated so use only half as much as regular detergent. Has worked very well so far, towels seem plusher than with Tide liquid.
I also think running a quick rinse cycle with an empty washer just before washing your mf's is a good idea to get rid of any remaining detergent still in it--we use Tide powder w/softener for regular laundry. Anyone else do this or am I being too anal?
