Got a new Black Mustang, need advice to get it show ready!

So I just bought my black 2011 Mustang GT. It has some really light swirl marks and spider webs and a couple small paint chips from rocks. I need to get it show ready, but have never done any major detailing. So far this is what I was thinking:

wash

megs claybar

wash again

megs ultimate polish (DA)

Chemical Guys blacklight (DA)

blacklight (hand)

wipe off blacklight with CG V07

Blackfire wet diamond

CG Petes 53 black pearl

Any advise on these products, or different products, or whatever would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Well it depends on what time frame you need to get it done and if you want to buy products locally, or online (thus having to wait for delivery), and also what else you have. Which pads are you using? What size? Which DA? I don't have any experience with Blacklight, but why apply by DA, and then by hand again?

Any pics of the car would be helpful also. I only worked on one black mustang before, and it was pretty hard clear if I remember correctly, so it really depends on the condition of the paint. Light swirling, UC should do the trick.

I have a few weeks so I can order things if I need to. I also live about 20 minutes from the Chemical Guys show room. I got the porter cable thats common in all the beginner packages, forget the model number. I got a variety of the 5 inch pads from CG.

CGs website says that for best results use blacklight with a DA as a light polish becuase it has light abrasives in it. Then apply by hand to just coat the car and let it sit for 15 min, then wipe off with a MF cloth and the V07. It's pretty cool stuff. Ill go take some pics and upload them in an hour.

That's interesting, I'll have to look into that. With what you have I think you should be good to go, depending how bad the car is and how good you want it

Here are some pics. The paint is pretty good, just very light swirls.

Looks really good actually, you could probably get away with just using Ultimate Polish or something similar, you may not even need to compound it

Welcome Charlie2011GT!

Very pretty car, enjoy the ride.

Now, as far as the paint goes, I have never ever seen a black car that was a year old with "only light swirls". Just be aware of that. It may take some time. BUT, there is always a first time for everything and for your sake, hopefully I am very wrong :D

From the pictures you have posted no one can tell what shape the paint really is. It is shiny looking, but we need to see both direct sun and led light pictures to see what the condition of the paint is.

Keep us posted please... with lots of pictures... and a huge write up... :D

PS: I see no reason to hand apply after a machine application except to maybe try to hide imperfections with black light?
