If you are new to detailing, and are having a hard time understanding all the steps and procedures everyone is talking about, you probably need to invest some of your own time to learn the basics. Sometimes asking specific questions won't help if you don't understand the big picture.
The e-book is an excellent resource and has a lot of good info about detailing your car. It will give you a lot of info and explanations that will help you understand the big picture.
Also, Meguiar's has some great clinics that contain a lot of good info. Their procedures are good, and the way they break the detailing process down is great. They obviously push their products, but it will give you a great idea of what certain types of products do and how to use them. You can then use products of the same type from other manufacturers. But the steps to detailing a car, regardless of the brand of products, is pretty universal.
And, of course, the search button here is an excellent tool. Use it to search for the questions you have. Chances are, you aren't the first person with that question.
Once you have a grasp of the basics, it will be much easier to understand what people are talking about, and you will ask much better and more specific questions. By asking better questions, you help people to effectively answer it. And, instead of just asking "what should I do?" and getting an answer "do these steps", you will actually understand why you need to do those steps and what they are supposed to accomplish. This will be a big help when it comes time to actually perform those steps on your car, and you can evaluate if the products are performing correctly. And don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with asking questions. But you will get so much more out of the answers if you understand a bit about detailing basics.
I'm sure some of you have some other excellent resources for getting an understanding of detailing, so please post them up here!
