Good MF to use to wiping off wax

Hey guys i'm looking for a good plush MF to wipe off paste wax with..

Idk if i'm doing something wrong, but when i put on my coat of purple haze (dodo juice) i usually have to go back and do it again) I do understand some waxes may die-back a bit and that's fine..

I do want to try some new MF's though. I usually use the purple cobra ones from autogeek.

thanks!

Care to explain why the Cobra MF's suck?

Also I've found on every detailing forum PakShak MF's are the flavor of the month ATM.

They have been popular for some time so it is not flavor of month. However, there are a lot of decent mf on the market. AG has changed their line up somewhat so prior experiences may not be valid.

I've had perfectly good MFs from both PakShak and AutoGeek/Cobra. Had 'em from Patrick at West Coast Detail Supply Home too and countless other places.

Some people like plush MFs for this, others like less-plush ones, and some folks prefer no-nap/suede-style MFs. All just personal preference and I use all three types to buff off LSPs.

Whatever you get, CD-test 'em before the first use and occasionally thereafter.

accumulator, what is your favorite one from AG? Will be placing an order from them, so i'd like to keep it all in one place.

I can't really say as a) I haven't bought MFs from them for ages and b) the Cobras get updated now and then :nixweiss

Sorry, wish I had a good answer for you. I'd just go with the "plushest" ones they're currently offering, I bet you could almost just buy by price, choosing the most expensive ones.

The best ones I've ever used came from Microfibertech. Granted they're years old now. In addition to the CD test, make sure they don't lint. I've had brand new, high quality ones out of the box do that. Probably not often at all, but it can happen to the best of them and I was completely refunded.

After being a lurker for a very long time, you guys move on to the next "IT" item pretty quick.

Whereas some others (e.g., Yours Truly) sometimes have to be dragged kicking and screaming into trying something new :chuckle: Guess it can be a fine line between not fixing what isn't broken and being stuck in one's ways.

But yeah...sometimes it does seem like there are waves of "newest, latest, gotta-try-it!" enthusiasm.

I really like the towels I purchased from Pak Shak to replace my aging paint/"good towels". AG/Cobra (for me at least) started to become hit and miss. The towels seemed soft enough but I was getting an unacceptable amount of linting from the new towels I was ordering from them. ....several Shamrocks (which they don't seem to carry anymore), 530's, a batch of waffle weaves (no lint but they simply won't pick up water and seem more repellent than absorbent) and even the new teal general purpose towels I was receiving (that had always been fairly consistent) were shedding. In fact, with my teal towels, you can actually see a difference between the ones I had received over time which leads me to my next point....

Wherever you decide to purchase your towels from, I would encourage you to buy sample quantities first. If there is one thing I have learned over the years is that MF's can change from batch to batch and depending on the source, they can be quite inconsistent. I got burned too many times with the AG towels that even though they may have changed their source/lineup, I doubt I will even buy another towel from them unless I'm really in a bind to try a new supplier. As it stands right now, I have been happy with the MicroPaks from PS I bought as "testers" almost a year ago and even the latest batch I received just a couple of months ago. ....I will be ordering a couple dozen more in the coming weeks.

I'm quite a creature of habit myself so unless PS changes their formula, I may be sticking with their lineup of MF's until I simply must change. ....that's not to say there are not similar or better quality towels out there however. I just don't have a reason to try or switch to anything else at the moment.

I haven't ordered MFs, especially Pakshak ,in a long time. The last time I ordered from him, he had the special Autopia price list.

Yeah, the linting from those is simply awful! I bought a scad of 'em and only use them when the linting is less important than the plushness/softness.

....mine are beyond horrible to the point where there is really nothing I can use them for. The lint appears everywhere (even with the 530's, although its worse with the plush side of those towels). I have thought about finding a use for them as perhaps a sort of wash cloth for wheels or something similar (where I would be using water to flush/rinse). As it is right now, they simply take up space in my towel drawers. ....I would have tossed them out long ago if they were cheaper towels.

Kean- When I discovered the FK1000P pseudo-holograms all over the Yukon, I was glad I had the Shamrocks, lint or not. The whole thing was dusty from having been mothballed in the shop for a few months, and I needed something that plush/soft to ONR it and buff buff buff out that FK1000P issue. You know how I am with ONR, but everything came out OK and I credit the Shamrocks.
