Good feedback on BF Spray Sealant from customer

I want to shampoo my Golf TDI, use swirl remover to get the paint nice and smooth, apply both steps of Klasse, then wax it with 3M Perfect-It Show Car Paste Wax (good choice for the Klasse?). I want a SMR without fillers. What are opinions on these (I'm doing it by hand):



-3M Perfect-It Foam Polishing Glaze Swirlmark Remover



-3M Finesse-It II



- 3M SMR for dark cars (is this the same as my 1st option?)



Also, how effective is Maquire's No. 9 SMR or Eagle One's scratch remover?

If you don't have any swirls or scratches that you are trying to remove, I wouldn't even bother with abrasives. In my opinion abrasives should be used as a last resort to remove oxidation or swirls.



If you do have swirls, I would start with the least abrasive and go from there. 3M perfect it SMR is my top choice to start with. What color is your car?



If you don't have any, I would suggest using a paint cleansing lotion and clay to get that ultra smooth finish.......



Most abrasive products do contain oils to function as lube and carriers for the abrasives. This usually stays behind on your paint. I recommend washing with dawn to remove this oil so that a finishing sealant can bond properly. If you are going right to KLASSE AIO the abrasives and cleaners in it should remove the oil for proper bonding. If you are set on KLASSE, I would use AIO and a few coats of SG and then evaluate. You might not have to finish up with a carnuba if you are happy with the shine, and then you can add more coats of SG at any time without worrying about the carnuba hindering bonding.........you be the judge.
 
I have used most of these.

Finesse-IT II is the most aggressive. Use if the lighter treatments don't satisfy you. On my black car, it leaves a definite haze, so you should follow it with SMR and then a polish or glaze.

3M SMR for Dark Finishes - works pretty well, technique matters a lot. I wrote up the recommended technique last week or two weeks ago - search for it.

Meguiar's SMR - not crazy about it - lot of work, not that good a result. HOWEVER my Meguiar's source told me they just came out with <strong class='bbc'>"Swirl Mark Remover 2.0"[/b] - which he says is quite a bit better, has more diminishing abrasives AND fillers.

Meguiar's Scratch-X - doesn't really polish out scratches (at least, no better than SMR and probably a little less) but does the best job of hiding them I've seen in a while. It clearly has fillers/polishes in it. Leaves a nice finish ready for wax.
 
I agree with DK. Abrasives are not meant to get the paint smooth. Their purpose is to remove swirl marks scratches and other imperfections. Everytime you use an abrasive you remove some of your clearcoat, so it is best not to use them unless you have to. You can simply use a clay bar to make your paint smooth if that is what you are after. Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion also works good for this. The cleaners in the AIO will also help to smooth out the paint. Don't underestimate the cleaning power of AIO, it works better than you think.



I don't think I would recommend the 3M Perfect-It Show Car wax over Klasse. I have tried the wax before, it does give a good shine at first, but the durability is not very good. It lasted about a week on my dark color Explorer. Since you are going to invest the time and $$$ into the finish of your car, its better to get a wax with better durability. Here are the waxes that I use over my cars with Klasse



1. Blitz (Good all around wax, great durability)

2. Pinnacle Paste Glaz (For light color cars, not great durability, but O.K.)

3. Pinnacle Souveran. (For dark cars, more durable than Paste Glaz.)



Overall I would go with the Blitz. For the shine and durability that is gives it is a great value. You may not even want to put a wax topper on your Klasse. You really have to wait and see what the Klasse looks like before you decide if you want the wax on top of it. The whole key with a wax topper is not to apply it until you are 100% happy with the way the Klasse looks. If you think you might want to apply another layer of SG in a few weeks after you are done, then don't apply the topper. That way you don't waste your wax, and you dont have to strip the wax off before applying more SG.
 
Thanks so very much everyone for all your great advice. I do actually have quite a few light swirl marks in my dark pearl green paint, so my thought was to try removing them before I sealed the paint over.



If I use 3M SMR should I still use something like Pinnacle Paint Cleansing Lotion, or is that overkill with Klasse's AIO and sealant?
 
hey carguy, can u tell me where that thread is about the techniques of using 3M SMR? i tried searching for it but couldnt find it. i might have already read it before but im unsure...

Whether or not you use PPCL after 3M SMR depends on your paint. Sometimes the fine abrasives in SMR give your paint a hazed, cloudy look that needs an even finer polish/filler to remove. PPCL is ideal for this if you find yourself needing a finer abrasive than SMR.

One of my customers needed a wash for his silver 911, he dropped it off and came back 2 hours later.

The car was only washed and there was zero protection left. I was going to QD it with FK425 but I used the BF spray sealant instead, I really like this product and use it regularly on my own car, easy on, easy off and it is very slick.

It really made his 911 look nice, and feel smooth.

Anyway he called me to let me know whatever I put on his car beads very well and still looks clean. Also asked if he could borrow the bottle as he is going to an event and prefers the look of this to his QD which he usually brings.

...So BF spray sealant, detailers and civilians like it a lot!

Different. I havent used Z8 since I ran out 6months ago. Z8 is very QD like, and mists thin, the BF spray seal works just like QD but sprays heavier, bit more wiping involved.

I would assume the BF spray has more durability and just from topping my car with it I do not think it attracts very much dust which is nice.

Plus if your already using BF WD it only seems logical to top up with the BF spray compared to any other product. I would use it every 2nd or 3rd wash.

Thats interesting David, the whole concept of Zaino is thin,thin,thin....if the BF spray seal is thicker going on and more wiping...its got to be leaving behind more mills...the next time you do one of your aw sum picture threads why not give us a demo on that product. :D
 
i just finished washing the wifes volvo and used the bf spray sealant after drying on top of bfwd. and it does leave a fresh slick feel to the paint. almost as if you just applied wet diamond to it... i'm digging it

Great feedback! It must be nice to have a customer let you know how much he likes the products you used.

I use it between waxes and I love it. It really is like adding another coat of BFWD. Great product!!!:thumbup:
