Gonna need some help with Jet Black...

Getting back to heffergm's OP, I think he was mentioning that his new 1 series will live outside 100% of the time and with other personal life obligations it might not be the best color choice. I still maintain that black can be maintained to look good as long as you spend some time on it frequently. By that I mean a little time once a week and not a lot of time every few months.

Black Bart, your vehicles look outstanding!!!

:bigups

My *old* black bmw lived outside. Never really had much of a problem with it. The biggest problem I had with it was when the dealer decided to run it through the automatic swirl installer.

I'll bet you can't. 901 just because you can not maintain Black does not mean it is impossible.
When you come home instead of putting your feet up in front of the TV and pop the top on a beer you need to spend 20 minutes and clean the car.

I have 7 vehicles and it don't matter which one I drive when I get home I clean it regardless of color.
I'm not going to drive a scroungy vehicle.
Keeping the undercarriage and the fender wells clean is far more work than the paint.[/QUOTE]

Its not me who can't maintain. That would be the responsibility of the idiot who buys a black DD :notme:

I personally don't partake in alcoholic beverages and I'm really not one to just sit around all the time doing nothing

7 cars huh......:crazy2:

Exactly my point :dnaughty

Hey look, the OP asked for advice on what to do. I'm just giving an honest answer. No garage + children + 60~75 hours a week = Failure :howdy

You have the right to not buy Black but to tell someone they are stupid because they do is showing you are the one with a problem.

Same goes for your crazy symbol about owning 7 vehicles.

I could agree with you but then we would both be wrong.

Now wait just a minute. I never said the OP was stupid. That wouldn't be nice

Well, I bet the next thread that comes along we will agree on 100% on. Now stop telling the members they are stupid :puterx:

I will be posting up some photos of a training session where I am going to help a fellow DC member figure out a good process for correcting his Jett Black Z435i. The work will be done on this coming Saturday. The pics should be up by Sunday evening with the 50/50 and the processes. it will be on this thread

Dave, My Bimmer is not Jet Blk, but Blk Sapphire, which is more forgiving, but you would never know from looking at my finish!

OK well that is good news then, We will have a better time at it knowing that it is not that super soft Jet Black. 23 Hours to go Kief!!!:D

Guys,
I appreciate the, ahem, zealousness. But really, no need to get bent out of shape about it.

I freely concede it's not the best color choice. However, it's hardly like I'm the only guy with a black car that lives outside.

In any event, it's a lease, so there won't be a "year 4" to worry about. I think I can manage to keep it marginally presentable without an overload of work, so it is what it is.

Tuscarora Dave... I don't suppose you feel like taking a trip to MA? :)
My car looks the same (i.e. holos, etc) as delivered from BMW (cheers boys).

If the price is right, I'll go anywhere;)

I provide free beer and have been seen dancing an occasional jig.

I'd also be willng to kick in compensation if you're serious ;)

93,000 mile sand 5 years old. All it takes is a little obsession and lots of time... lol

Very nice.

I haven't heard back from Rick since I'd initially talked to him, so I'm going to try some PWS once the pollen quits making a mess.

I had my Black truck and it had swirls abound. But it lived outside 24/7 in terrible winter conditions. If one uses proper techniques swirls can be held to a minimum.

I kept mine clean and as swirl free as I could but the elements and my bad techniques finally beat me down. I traded the black truck away. Red is much easier. My new truck is Blue Metallic Granite and I find this to be forgiving but I do not employ any bad techniques or products and I have found a happy medium to clean and shiny. This does not include multiple polishing forays with the latest product.

With all that said my Black truck still is the best looking truck I ever had. Mostly because it was black. Black is my favorite color and I hate it all at the same time.

Black Bart, I have no reason to not believe you. I mostly spend my time wishing that I had the where with all to be able to do what you do. Hmmm... seven cars all under a roof. I have to stay satisfied to have one vehicle that is clean and shiny even though it is parked outdoors.

A clean and shiny swirl free vehicle can be obtained. I have seen daily drivers that were awesome. Mine was swirled. Good luck on your shiny new vehicle, heffergm. You can do it just don't employ bad techniques and use quality products when you do detail your vehicle.

Well, I finally got to spend a bit more time on the car now that the pollen has quit making a mess.

I had ordered a new polishing pad along with some PWS. I noticed something immediately, which was that my old polishing pad was toast. I didn't realize it until I put the new one on, but something was definitely wrong with the old one. Completely different motion for some reason. I tossed the old one, I think it was one of the main causes of my previous issues.

Finished the whole car. I love PB's products, mainly because they wipe off so easily compared to anything else I've used. I don't think the PWS did much in terms of paint correction (I was working in the evening so tomorrow's sun will tell the tale) but after going over the hood I'd made a mess of, I could see immediately how much gloss it brought back. Did the car, so at least now it's sealed up.
