First post! I just bought a 98 Jetta and I know for a fact that it hasn't seen one decent detail job. The paint color is blue porcelin (almost a gray-blue color). The car does have swirl marks and has probably seen many cheap waxes and drive-thru car washes. So where do I begin?

What do most of you prefer...Klasse or Zaino? And for interior?

Well, you can probably begin by checking out the Autopia Guide to Detailing. Click the STORE button at the top. That is the best advice I could give to a beginner.

There is no right product for your car. Just what product is right for you. (man, I'm full of good ones today!) Zaino may be the bomb for some people and Klasse may do it for others. It just depends on what results you want, how much you want to spend, how much time you have to spend, etc. Welcome to Autopia! Have fun searching and reading. You are sure to get a mind full if you search for threads on either Klasse or Zaino. :xyxthumbs

First thing, get the Autopia Guide to Detailing, and read the whole thing thoroughly! That will give you a good foundation of the basics.

If the car has never been detailed, I would wash it with a good conditioning car shampoo such as P21S and go over it with a clay bar and swirl mark remover before attempting to use Zaino or Klasse.

I personally think that Klasse topped with P21S works great (I have a black 99 Passat). I think you'll find that 303 spray works best on the dash because it won't make it glossy. It will keep that nice matte finish the VW dashes have.

I use Stoner Invisible Glass for the windows (but white vinegar works well too).

Here is a great link to one vw owner's regimen: www.jwilnet.com He is an Autopia member and has great step by step procedures.
