need a bit of advice on where to start!!!

first off the car is a 2002 vw passat in inky blue mettalic.

it has seen no end of mechanical car washes(by the previous owner!!) and as such the paint is pretty swirled up.

ive just recieved my sfx pc kit from autopia and also have the following product....

poorboys super slick and suds

sonus car wash (free from autopia)

meguiars paint cleaner and deep crystal polish.

poorboys ssr2 (half bottle left)

prima swirl

klasse aio

sonus sfx 3 and pre wax cleaner

p21s wax.

poorboys ex and exp

so ive been reading up and it sound as though the vw paint is pretty hard , so have i got anything here that will get rid of the swirls and spiderwebs?? or am i going to need somthing a bit stronger.?

what would be a good combination out of the list of products to get the car looking really nice but also give it a bit of protection from the sun and dust out here in cyprus

ive been doing the poorboys wash

aio

then exp by hand and whilst it looks good im sure there is room fopr a definte improvement!!!

what do you think peeps

one last thing ive got the sfx kit as mentioned with 6inch pads and was wondering how you polish the thin strip of paint above the doors (ie the window frame ) can i just use the 6" pads or do i need smaller ones??

The products that you have there are quite mild in terms of swirl removal, espeically for harder paints that you can find on VAG cars... However, before splashing out on more polishes, I woul certainly have a go with what you have there. If the car has seen no end of mechanical car washes then chances are that the paint is in pretty poor condition with some major swilrs and tramlining, but have a go first with what you have there... For defect correction, try out the Poorboys SSR2 and see what this achieves. Give it a couple of "hits".

If you find you are getting no where fast with the products you have, and are thoroughly working the products, then I would highly recommend the Menzerna products range for use by PC on hard paint finishes... Menzerna PO85RD3.0x Intensive Polish would be my first port of call if SSR2 fails, applied using a light cutting or cutting pad. This may take a couple of hits but I would expect this to be capable of removing medium swilrs on hard paint finishes by PC. If and only if the Intensive Polish is not getting you anywhere, then step up to Power Gloss, applied ideally using a 4" cutting pad. This is an aggressive compound and as such I would view it as a last resort, it will leave its own marring behnd especially when being applied by PC as the PC doesn't really have the power to thoroughly break the product down, but it can still deliver the results if all else is failing. Follow it with the Intensive Polish to remove the marring it leaves.

Once you have removed thedefects with the Menzerna polishes, the I would use Klasse AIO applied using a finishing pad on the PC and follow this up with the P21S wax on the inky blue metallic Passat that you have - this will give a nice deep and wet looking shine from the products that you have.

thanks dave!!! are you stalking me from detailing world!!!!!!!

no seriously i was just putting the same question out there to the fellowship of autopians to see what they had to say.

have taken your advice on board anyway and am going to order the menzerna stuff you recommend, only on clean yourcar the product code hasnt got the "x" on the end so is it the same stuff??

also can you reply to my post on dw as ive asked you a few more questions and am not sure if youve seen it!!

cheers buddy!

Yep, there is more than one version of Intensive Polish - PO85RD3.01 and PO85RD3.02 are examples, so I just put an x at the end... The one at CleanYourCar is the one that I use. :)
