Going to try 22PLE, need to remove opti-coat... opinions?

The beading has become more than relaxed on the sides of my car now and so it doesn't even look like anything is on there. I know the OC is still there, but I want to get opinions on what would be best for ensuring all OC is off of my paint before applying the new coating.

I have the following polishes and pads.

Pads: Meg's burgundy (cutting pad) yellow pad (lighter cutting pad) standard softer blue pad and black pads.

Polishes:

Menzerna IP, SIP, FP ... Meg's 105

I know that it doesn't take a whole lot to remove the OC, but I don't want to do to much of course.

Should I just do a pass with the IP and yellow meg's pad and then the FP with the blue? If it's not beading well, how do I know if it's actually off of the car?

Hard to really tell if OC is still there after polishing so I would strongly suggest going with M105 and don't look back. I'd hate for some of the coating to still be there and cause any issues with 22PLE.

So the 105 with the yellow pad? Should I follow it up with the Menzerna FP 4500 grit with blue pad, or would I need something inbetween the 2?

No problem. Please keep us posted on how it turns out. Would be nice to see if you could maybe tape off 1/2 of say the trunk and only do a light FP4500 polishing to see how it holds up compared to the totally stripped section.

this is not meant to be a smart *** question, but it will come off that way...

are you sure that you just dont need a good cleaning/decon? before all the work of stripping the OC off, im willing to bet that a good decon with p21s TAW or an APC might solve your problem....also you could use a mild clay if you had to and still not really affect the coating.

even ironx snow foam would do the trick....ive seen alot of people think the OC is gone, but the paint is just so dirty that you loose the OC properties..after a thorough cleaning/decon, its looks like day one.

Yes, but why buy all of that stuff on the chance that it MIGHT work? Not to mention that if I use clay I run the risk of marring the paint and having to polish it and put more OC on anyway. So for me, it's not work all of that work. I will have something that i've wanted to try and based on pics... looks much better to be frank.

Yeah that's no problem. You will definitely see a difference because I have actually done that before to my hood and roof which I re-coated after the beading on it started to go south. I'll do a part of the car 50/50 though and post the pics up.
