going the extra mile

I am just starting my business. I believe that customer service is the key to sucess. Doing a fantastic job while detailing the customers car is a must. I want to go even further. I want my customer to wow this guy has a great service. I wish I had come here a long time ago.

I try to put myself in the customers shoes. When I get done detailing my car, I feel really good. You just feel better in a clean enviorment. I allways vow that it will never be dirty again and I make sure to have a few cleaning items left in the glove compartment or console. That way I can quickly wipe of the dash if it gets dirty or clean the windshield.

I wish I could find some small sample bottles of some superior product that I could leave in the customers glove box as a thank you.

products would include glass cleaner and or waterless wash. Just enough to tease the customer. I would like to find a dealer that could provide these items at a fair price.

I would like to hear from the guys and gals that have been detailing a long time.

All feedback is welcomed and apreciated

Well i dont really leave products for the customer becuase usually they dotn want to take the time to do the work. I think giving samples can be a disaster when the customer grabs the waterless wash and a dirty bath towel and goes to town. just my 2 cents.

I'm no professional (weekend enthusiast), but seems to me that you are "providing a service" and not "teaching and helping them to get started".

Just my $0.02, but I wouldn't give the samples. IF they express an interest with a SPECIFIC area of detailing (windows, leather, carpets) you might give some recommendations and direction on online sources for products and then a bit of a sample, but as a standard practice, I wouldn't expect it.

I do not think that giving samples would cause anyone to loose business. People are just to busy. I they do show interest and you give them the knowlege to do it themselves the I say that is going the extra mile.

going the extra mile for a customer builds a loyal customer. just my thoughts

You could make up sample bottles yourself , and leave them with a good set of directions on use. There's nothing wrong with educating your customers on how to take care of their vehicles.

That's some good advice. If you want to go that route, I would buy a large container of whatever you plan to give out. I would also stop by Wal Mart to get some small bottles.

hmmm. maybe u can offer one free follow up wash after they purchase a full detail. it shouldnt take too long. just tell them that the wash would have to be within 10 days to make sure the car doesnt get too filthy for ya.

i dunno. maybe tell them u'll give em 20% off if they refer someone with a full detail.

just throwing some ideas at you..

Just like everyone else said, just taking the extra step, or doing something quick, that they know wasn't included. In fact, just today, i went back to the marina where i had just detailed a $1.5M yacht, and helped the yard guys remove some tape residue they couldn't get off. The marina owner walked over and said "stuff like that is what will make us keep calling you guys for all of our details" So taking 10 minutes out of my hectic schedule nailed me down what will probably turn out to be a $25,000+ contract customer each season!

Do whatever it takes to make the customers happy. Top notch service, and great marketing is what will allow you to thrive and make the $$ in this business.
