I have 100% cotton towels, just bought a Porter Cable, was wondering if removing the Polish, then Wax by hand is okay? And if so, what material is best for removing each respective product?
 
most folks here occupy 2 schools of thought, the use of microfiber towels (miracle towel, ultimate towel, neat items, etc.) to remove polish/wax or the use of 100% cotton towels, or a combination of both. Either way, microfibers or cotton towels are the way to go, just preference.

Since you asked about 100% cotton towels, the brand that most of us here use is made by FieldCrestCannon, you can visit their website at www.fieldcrestcannonoutlet.com. Lots of us here have the Charisma brand (although there has been some threads about Charisa Select) while others have the Royal Velvet. I personally love the Charisma's, I have both RV and Charisma and the Charisma's are much nicer, plusher, softer than the RVs. Just be sure to cut off the decorative boarder, edging, and have them serged or seal the edge with a zig zag stitch so they don't fray. Obviously, the cotton towels that you purchase at the auto parts store are not completely 100% cotton and can promote scratches.

You sound like a careful person. It is not absolutely necessary that you get your Charisma towels serged. Just fold them carefully so that only the soft portion of the towel comes into contact with the paint. You get four sides per towel, plenty for removing wax or polish from your car.



The Charisma towels are my choice for this, and are recommended by many here. Just make sure you never use ANY fabric softener when you wash them. Bleach and liquid detergent is fine, just no fabric softener or dryer sheets - unless you are going to dry yourself off with it!



Get white towels only. Leaves no dye behind and easy to see when it is dirty.



Wash after every use, and only use the towel for one thing at a time (removing polish, removing wax, drying, whatever.) I got 4 of these locally and have washed them at least a dozen times already.



I love MF towels for QD'ing and interior detailing, glass, and household uses. The Charisma towels are fine for this, too. You may want to get a few Charisma hand towels for door jambs, wheels, and the like. Same thing applies, use the soft areas only.



Certainly having your towels cut and serged would be great! Just make sure they use 100% cotton thread when doing so. Otherwise, you are wasting your time. 100% thread is not normally available at most stores - you may have to mail order it or order the towels "pre-serged".

Thks for reply, guess thats the info I was looking for, I bought 100% cotton with 100% cotton thread border from Griots, and they had this 'micro fiber' towel that was promoted as the best thing to remove "polish"...wasn't sure if anyone used those or not. Thks again.
 
I use my Porter cable to apply stuff and terry cloth cotton clothes to remove them.



I have never caused damage with terry cloth, I have never used microfiber and I don't really see the need for it, terry cloth does the job perfect and the microfiber clothes are plain out expensive; espically if your like me and I like to always have alot of new towels.



About the wax, everyone says to apply it by hand and remove it the same way. It's the final touch, the cherry on top. I like to apply it by hand as well.
 
Depends on what your using, I like to use the Porter Cable for Polish, Glaze and Klasse Products. I only put the Porter Cable down when I need to remove a product from from car's finish or when I wax, aside from that, the PC is set at "4" and hums away.
 
Charisma towels are good. They are very soft, thick, and plush. Try to find irregular ones. otherwise they are a little expensive ($27.99/towel in most stores). The Fieldcrest outlet has bath towels for $9.99. Also, try some shops in your local area. Just the other day I was at Homegoods and they had a sale on irregular Charisma's. They had the bath towels for $6.99, and the hand towels for $4.99. Needless to say, I left with quite a few of them ;)





I really like microfiber towels too. They are great for many things, buffing wax, clean interiors and glass. But, only get top quailty towels if they are going to touch your paint. The only downside with MF is the price, they are expensive, especially for the good ones like Miracle Towels.
 
I dont know, I have never used that towel before. The only MF towel I use on my paint are Miracle Towels. If you are going to use Microfiber on your paint, you have to be very careful about which ones you use. Some of the cheaper ones are not very plush and can scratch your car. In the world of Microfiber you get what you pay for.

For a family of 4 or a rich single man who has no family obligations?

The Corvette won't rescue a bankrupt company. They will have to sell a few million a month to pay down their debts. So, practically thinking, if the company can't make a profit, what good is a Corvette?
 
New Vettes may be world class sports cars in performance, but the interiors are not up to par with the rest of the car IMO. I've seen better interiors in cars costing much less.
 
That Vette is HOT and I want one. Unfortunately, I don't think it is enough to save GM. They have way too many issues. If they are to come back to the way things used to be, a lot of things need to change in the way the company iis run starting right from the top. This country needs GM to survive, so let's hope they can turn things around.

Absolutely! You're right, the new Vette is clearly not GM's savior. IMO neither is the Chevy Volt. What they need to do is to look at the big picture of what American buyers want. Look at Toyota and Honda. Obviously that's what American buyers want. Coming up with the Volt (all electric) is a great idea, but why do we have to wait 4 years to get it????? We need innovation, reliablility, economy and good looks and we need it NOW, not 4 years from now. :biggrin: [off soap box]

Final point.... That ZR-1 is, without a doubt, the finest Corvette ever built!!!!! I immediately start salivating every time I think about it.......:cornut::drool5:
 
I'll put on my Brit hat-

One US car company had the right idea but choked on the bottom line costs (short sighted) [Ford, quality is job I] I think they still believe it not important to the US vehicle buyer. The new corvette fit / finish IMO is proof of that
