Gleaming Kleen - TVR gets a MakeOver

Buffed Jet black car out 5 days ago (car is 3 weeks old) Had a mirror finish, no swirls. Washed it yesterday with two bucket method, linear. Today, I can see massive linear swirls in the right light (Florescent overheads, 6 of them, and in direct sunlight)



Culprit: Natural lambs wool mitt.



Suggestions for a wash mitt? Synthetic softer?
 
100% Cotton Chenille Mitt. These mitts have a lot more pile for the dirt to get up into so that it won't be rubbed into the surface. Viking makes good ones, you can get them at AutoZone or WalMart. Also, CMA and TACS also sell them and I heard both are very plush.
 
Cool,thks for the suggestion. I want to clarify that the car was very clean to begin with, so, in essence, no dirt caused these linear swirls, the mitt did!
 
Couple of other points



- The swirls "may" have been there prior and were not visible due to dirt, not viewing in the right light/angle, or oils in wax/polish already on car.



- It's my opinion that, yes, the wash mit/sponge/whatever is an important factor in "reducing" swirls. But, if dirt is embedded, or you apply too much pressure, or dont use a quality soap, or a bit of grit is stuck in your mit, you'll still get swirls. There is no 100% sure fire way to never get swirls. This is why you see all of the experts on here giving advice on how to use the Porter Cable and FinesseIt, they have lots of practice on their own cars.
 
Extreme care was taken to not apply pressure beyond the weight of the glove soaked with sudsy water (Griots car wash used, at 75% strength of recommended amount , 3/4 ounce to 2 gallons), and to make one 'wipe',then turn glove over, another wipe, then two bucket rinse.



Going back to lighter colors next new car, this is a pain in the butt(jet black!~)
 
Owner recently bought this vehicle and wanted some work done on it to bring it up to a high standard and change a few things on the car.

First up was to change the colour of the leather, it was a horrible dingy grey and client requested a much lighter colour so a creame dye was used. Seats, center console, dash board and rear deck were all sprayed to the new colour. This took alot of time as alot of masking up was needed so I didnt document this part of the detail that much..

Here you can see the difference between the original grey colour and the new creame colour. The cream certainly looking much better IMO

The dash board was PITA as the windscreen sat very tightly to the dash so was unable to get any dye onto this area so I had to get an professional installer to come and remove this. The plan was to remove the windscreen and then re-install but after making a few phone calls it was clear a new windscreen would more than likely be needed as they are under so much pressure and fit very tightly that 95% of the time when removed they shatter. So a new windscreen was ordered from TVR just incase the worst happened

Luckly the rear window is only held in by clips so was easily removed which allowed to me to get good coverage

The next thing the owner wanted changed was the colour of the wheels from silver to anthracite so they were given a FULL refurb

This pic is of one of the front wheels after it was fully stripped, you can see the cracks around the wheel nut holes....more than likely from over tightening so a new wheel was ordered to replace it.

Wheel hubs and nuts were looking a bit sorry so these were sanded back, primed, painted and laquared.....same colour as the wheels

Paint correction was carried out using Menz 3.02 on a megs polishing pad, I then followed this up with Menz 1066ff and finishing with 85rd

Once all machine stages were complete Swissvax cleaner fluid was applied and removed and then car recieved its first coat of wax

Just when I thought it was all over client had another thought and wanted the front grill sprayed the same colour as the wheels. This was easily removed and taken to the bodyshop.

A very enjoyable detail in all and I personally think all the changes made sit very well with the car, especially the leather.

My God, son, that thing is beautiful (now). I like the CF tailpipes.

If a client ever said to me "oh, while you're at it change out the color of the leather, wheels and front grille" I'd probably faint. Very well done and I agree, tasteful changes.

Incredible work! I would go nuts trying to squeeze around all of those bends on that car. How did you re-finish the wheels?
