Glass cleaning tips

Can't seem to get the inside of the front windshield perfectly clean without wipe marks. Only the inside, any tips?

You have to have a really good glass cleaner and absolutely perfectly clean, absorbent, cloth to apply the cleaner on a cool glass in the shade, and then another perfectly clean absorbent cloth to remove the cleaner and polish the glass..
Is this front glass the only glass that wont come clean, or is it all glass ?

Some glass cleaners leave junk on the glass, some do not..
That's how I do it and I rarely have issues..

What are you using and what is your process ?

Cars come off the lot at a dealership, after being in the sun. Product is a blue liquid in a spray bottle that seems to be diluted. Used to put on, then take off is a white paper towel.

Sounds like maybe windex and paper towel?

I'm a fan of Stoner's Invisible Glass and a microfiber towel. For the outside, you can spray the glass, but on the inside, spray the towel. Turn the towel as needed or as mentioned, have another handy if/when needed. Go in one direction back and forth outside, then the other direction back and forth inside - allowing you to more easily identify the side if/when there's any streaks.
 
To me the tricks I have either learned or be shown that helped me get better at glass are the following

1 never clean glass in the sun
2. Never spray glass cleaner on the glass. Always on the towel. This way there is not fall out on the dash
3. I use stoners invisible glass most of the time
4. Spray a liberal amount of glass cleaner on a clean glass used only MF towel liberally
5. Wipe the inside of the glass north to south. Flip to clean wet side and go east and west.
6. Take a 2nd dry glass specific towel and buff off wet residue until the surface is dry.
7. Don't wash the glass only MF with wax, sealant or polish MF. I wash mine solely with drying towels.

Come to think of it, you might not be able to get the dealership to switch glass cleaners. But you may be able to switch to a clean microfiber towel instead of paper towel(s). Also, get a spray bottle with plain old water. Initially clean with your blue window cleaner (windex?), then make a final pass with water and a clean, dry MF towel - just might make all the difference.

+1! All good tips! Dirty glass is my biggest pet peeve.

I also have great luck cleaning interior glass with nothing more then using 1 damp (with warm water) MF glass towel to clean with and then following up with a 2nd MF glass towel to dry. The warm water helps remove normal plastic outgassing haze, finger prints, etc... and the 2nd dry MF removes any leftover water drops. Once you're done with a window, all you need to do is rinse out the damp towel with fresh warm water and repeat the process on the next window.
 
When I did New Car Prep for a dealership I had to bring a lot of my own stuff to do the job right. Yeah...that can be problematic for several reasons but it worked OK for me.

Watch MFs for glass, many leave lint.

Good glass cleaners are a lot better than mediocre ones.

I simply *LOVE* Griot's Polypropylene Window Wipes for the final passes.

I dunno what that Accumulator is talkin' about - one of the reasons we use MF towels is because they are typically lint free. He must be washing them funny or he gets his towels 2nd hand at the lint shop?! :lol:
 
The polypropylene wipes are available at Griots Garage. I have them too but I don't have as much luck with them as Accumulator does

I find if my glass microfiber towels drag it's because the glass still isn't clean (i.e. the rear window where they write my number for drag racing is always dirty even though it looks clean because of residue from the paint they use, takes many more passes to get it smooth feeling again).
 
Heh heh, pretty much *all* of my MFs lint....eventually. Just a matter of "when".

Yeah...I seem to have more trouble with this than most people, the plush MF Drying Towels that Tom P. recommended (and has no problem with) lint so badly for me that I can't use them to dry areas that show (doorjamb-duty only). Even my WWMFs end up linting something awful.

The no-nap/flat-weave glass towels are best in this regard. Worst are my Shamrocks but my Pinnacle MF Wash Mitts, which I bought for drying-aid use, are so bad I can't use them for that.
 
MiVor- heh heh, well...I *do* have some cotton towels I've been using since the '80s!

Bill D- I only use the polypro wipes for the final passes, they aren't very good for the actual "cleaning" part of the job.
