Glass cleaning help please...

As some of you may know, the wife and I just got a new 2012 Ford Edge. We literally got it last wednesday night, took it on a road trip this past weekend and I was able to give it a quick wash on Sunday to knock the bugs off.

It's obvious I need to clay the whole thing and polish as the finish is rough, but the one thing that really jumped out at me as I cleaned it was the water staining on the glass. This car has the panoramic sunroof so the top is all glass...plus the glass on the sides of the car has some slight staining too.

Any suggestions on how I can clean it up and maintain it? I'm hoping there's something out there to make it easier. Is it possible to get it flawless and keep it that way, or am I going to have to deal with staining after every rain/washing?

I saw something on Diamondite...anyone have any first-hand experience? Is there anything better or comparable?

I'm open to any suggestions.
 
One of my favorite products to clean the inside and outside of glass is Klasse AIO. Is is great chemical cleaner and leaves a layer of protection. After that I would use almost any sealant on the outside on a regular basis.

I just applied OG/OC to the exterior side and back windows on my truck. It has only been a week but it did rain today and the water beading and sheeting is great. To me OG/OC would be a more permenent solution for the exterior.
 
First i would start off with a glass cleaner like Stoners Invisible glass. Just make sure whatever glass your cleaning is in the shade and cool to the touch. If this is not removing the stains or water marks on the glass i like to use this Glass Science Glass Scrub Auto Glass Stripper it works great and for protection for the glass i like this product Glass Science Rain Clear Windshield Repellant Gel. They both work very well and the rain clear last a long time (im going on a little over 2 months and water is still beading a flying off my windshield). One little side note with the rain clear is that you need to use a very small amount of the gel ( like the size of a pea, seriously) or you will get streaking and spend the next 20 mins trying to get it streak free:wall .
 
I used the Diamondite system on my truck. Removed water spots very easily. Expensive, but did work. Cheaper ways of doing it, but it did work well and is easy to work with

Poorboys Pro-polish is what I would use to start on the outsides only. Guessing that the insides are tinted. You can also use 0000 steel wool to remove light water stains on the outside parts of the windows, I do these two methods all the time
 
And I guess my other question is...will this Diamondite (or any other product for that matter) protect the surface from these water stains for any length of time...or will they come back with each rain storm or bit of water that dries on them each time?

RainX should take care of that problem, has worked for me

It really depends. If it's just rain water it should wash away with no problems. Now if you wash the car with tap water (that is high in calcium or magnesium) or get hit with sprinkler water, nothing is going to protect from that.

could always try car-pro ceriglass on a white or orange foam pad. do not for the life of you do not! use DP glass restorer. using it on a foam pad left my glass in way worse condition then it was before i started(and it wasn't even that bad), swirls and haze everywhere i tried everything i could think of with that product and did not help one bit i highly doubt it was my technique as others have had the same problem. but the stuff i have could be an older version i do not know but i would not use it.ceri-glass is cheaper anyways. for protection i dont buy anything special, its a waste of money just use any wax/sealant with great durability and you will be good....if you do buy a special product for glass, get a glass coating not just a sealant.
 
A good glass polish should do the trick, I always been using Duragloss Nu-Glass to polish out them stains and top it off with Aquapel on my ride, wife's has got Griot’s Garage Glass Sealant now.

Along those same thoughts.......Nu-Glass followed by Aquawax. You can see clear to next week.
 
Over the years I've tried so many cleaners I've lost track of their names.

Stoner's Invisible Glass is a great over the counter product and can be found just about anywhere. Stoner's Invisible Glass does work but at $7.95 for 22 ounces it's on the expensive side especially if you're using a lot of it...

About 3 years ago Meguiar's D120 Glass Cleaner was on sale for about $18.00 a gallon and diluting it 10 parts distilled water to 1 part cleaner you can see how cost affective this is....:yay

Meguiar's D120 Glass Cleaner cleans like no other glass cleaner I've ever used. I always clean glass using two microfiber waffle weave towels, 1 to wash and 1 to dry. This combination virtually guarantees sparkling clean streak free glass no matter where I use it...

CarPro Ceri-Glass does a great job polishing glass but to get it to perform I had it apply it with my rotary and an orange pad.

To protect the glass after all this hard work there's only one product that rises up above the rest; Aquapel...5 months of solid water shedding protection through a long cold New England winter.... .:bigups
